Inchicore Here is a little bit of information about our area and our parish: Inchicore is in Dublin 8. This is on the south
side of Dublin city. The very
first pilgrimage from Ireland to Lourdes in France was organised by the Oblates
in 1883. Immediately there was a wish that there should be a Lourdes Shrine in
Ireland at Inchicore. The famous “Lourdes Grotto” in the grounds
of The Church of Mary Immaculate is a distinctive feature of this parish.
Every year on Feb. 11th there is a Torchlight Procession which is attended by
thousands of Dubliners. The Oblates came to Inchicore in 1865. In
1870, the foundation stone of the present The Church of Mary Immaculate church
was laid. The church was built by volunteers from the local CIE works. It
replaced a temporary wooden church. We have our company meetings beside
this church. |
