Internet Safety
This Safety Code is also available on other websites but
we think that this is very important so we have included it here.
There are great things to do and learn on the Internet and it provides the
opportunity to meet lots of new people.
But, remember there can be lots of dangers on the web too.
Just as you know that you need to be careful of strangers, when you are walking
home from school or other activities such as company meetings, you also need to
be aware of people you meet online.
You should use the following safety
code:
- I will not give
out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents’
work address/telephone number or the name and location of my school without
the permission of a parent/guardian
- If I see any
information that makes me feel uncomfortable, I will turn off the monitor
and tell my parent/guardian or adult leader right away
- I know that people
I “meet” online are not always who they say they are. I will never
agree to get together with someone I “meet” online without first
checking with my parent/guardian
- I will get to know
my “online” friends just as I would get to know my other friends
- I will never send
a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my
parent/guardian
-
I
will not answer any messages that are nasty or in any way make me feel
uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that, and if
I do, I will tell my parent/guardian right away so that they can deal with
it
-
I
will never use bad language or sent nasty messages online myself
-
I
will be careful and think about what I write and whom I give information to
-
I
will log off if I am unsure
-
I
will not give my password to anyone except my parent/guardian (not even to
my best friend)
