Ahmedabad
The lone flower market in the city is situated near Bhadrakali temple in Lal Dharwaja. The major flowers traded in this market are marigold, jasmine and tuberose. The flowers are supplied to this market from villages within a radius of 50 km. The farmers bring them to the market on trains, rickshaws and tempos. There are very few such units operating in organized sector in India. However, there are few units in small scale sector and medium scale sector presently operating in various parts of country including northern India, Southern India, Eastern India and Central India. In western India, in Rajasthan there are few units extracting Henna color from Henna leaves commercially. Some units in M.P are extracting Annatto roots for getting Butter Yellow colour. In south India Turmeric is processed for colour extraction. In northern India colour is extracted from Saffron, Beet root, Marigold flowers, Rose flowers etc; However, no organized compiled data for these units are available.
As mentioned earlier no organized data for existing units in small and medium scale sectors are available, hence based on trade information market size has been estimated.
Vegetable Dyes has approx. 5000 MT market in India and almost equal quantity market in export market. Against this present supplies is also about 8000 to 10,000 MT, but individual product wise there is shortage of many items, for e.g. Annatto Colour, or Beet root colour. Henna colour is surplus, but colour from Tea leaves/ Coffee beans/ Cocoa beans are again having very good market world over.
Apart from this, there is fast growing market of natural colours for Cosmetics and Pharma industries. There is also fast growing market for these colors in other products for e.g. Children Crayon colours for painting in Europe and USA has to use natural colours. Even colour papers used for decoration or wrapping/ packing food products needs natural colour usage.
There is also preference of vegetable Colour dyed clothes over synthetic coloured clothes due to increasing awareness about synthetic colours’ harmful effects in their production and usages. Hence, the present estimate 10,000 MT of vegetable dyes market is most reasonable. It will be certainly more than this estimate. |
