Case 1- a case of delayed
puberty treated with homeopathy
History: A
16 year old girl was brought to me & her mother told me,"
Doctor, she has not yet started menstruating at the age of 16
& we are worried".On detailed questioning, I found no past
history of any major illness & she was not currently on any medication.
She had never been taken to any doctor for the problem & had taken
no medicines for the same. There had been no history of any hormonal
or congenital disorders in the family either.
Examination & treatment: On
physical examination, I found there was no development of breasts
& no hair over the genital area. But otherwise, she appeared
very normal both physically & mentally.She was normal in her academic
performance & teachers had shown no cause for concern. Ideally,
before starting treatment I would have liked to send her for
investigations like sonography & hormonal studies to rule out
any major disorder.But the family was not in a position to
immediately meet the financial cost of the investigations. So only
a sonography of the pelvis was done which was normal. I agreed to
start homeopathic treatment only on the condition, that if there was
no positive development after 4 months, hormonal studies will have
to be compulsarily done. She was called for follow-up once a week.
Results: After
about 3 months of homeopathic remedies slight development
of the breasts was noticed & tiny hair started appearing over
the pubic area. At the end of 6 months,. more breast
development & hair growth was visible. By 9 months,
she noticed some mucus like discharge through the vagina. The discharge
continued on & off for 3 months & at the end of 1 year
of treatment she got her first menses.For the initial few months
her cycle was not very regular, but at the end of 1-1/2 years of treatment,
she did not require any more medicines. So treatment was discontinued.
Later she got married & today is a doting mother of 2 kids. |
