Case 8- A case of enlarged tonsils treated with homeopathyHistory: This is a case of a two & a half year old girl. When brought to me she was very weak & underweight. She had suffered from recurrent chest infections & tonsillitis right since her infancy. Everytime she suffered a bout, she was given a combination of 2-3 antibiotics. She had slowly developed resistance to most antibiotics & during her last two bouts had to be admitted to hospital to be given injectable antibiotics. Due to repeated antibiotic therapy which was given to her at least once every 1-2 months, she had never properly developed an appetite with the result that she was grossly underweight.. Besides repeated antibiotics had also probably lowered her resistance leading to repeated infections.Examination & treatment: Apart from being underweight her tonsils were quite enlarged & she appeared very dull, not lively as children of her age would be expected to. Results: I discontinued all her allopathic medication apart from vitamins B-complex & started her on homeopathic treatment. My first goal was to prevent repeated infections & to treat any infections when they occured with homeopathy. I wanted to see to it that any antibiotic is avoided at least for the next 6-8 months so that she could develop an appetitie & gain weight. After that I planned to start treatment for reducing the size of tonsils. So I started her on medicines for increasing her resistance i.e. building up her immune system to enable her to fight infections. In the first two months of treatment she did not suffer from any infection & also gained about one & a half kg weight. The same treatment was continued for some more weeks.She then had an episode of cough during the monsoon season but she responded well to homeopathy & no antibiotics were required. After 6 months of treatment, I started her on medicines for reduction of her enlarged tonsils. She is currently under treatment for the same & is responding very well & has gained about 4 kgs of weight & has not taken any antibiotic for the last 6 months. |
