Indonesian Ju Jitsu Club History

Ju jitsu is a martial arts that came from Japan. It's philosophy "Defeat the enemy with gentle". Ju jitsu golden age as a martial arts began at samurai age, especially at EDO Era (1603-1887), Samurai people also training Ken Jutsu (Kendo), they trained from 5 years old and at 15 years old they permitted to use the real sword

A figure that inspire Ju jitsu to be a modern sports is Dr. AKIYAMA, after that Dr. JIGOROKANO advanced Ju jitsu to be JUDO KODOKAN in 1886 in Tokyo. Time by time Ju jitus has become somethign individual, It's learned in special environment, such as: Military, Pocice, Secret Agent, etc.

JUDO - JU JITSU in army and police is known as UNARMEND SELF DEFENCE

Ju jitsu is a combintion of:

At that time Ju jitsu start to began the age of sports, fist, kick become KARATE, said M. NAKAYAMA (DAN 10) there are 11 kind of fist and 7 kicking style. throw down and locking become JUDO, MASUTATSU OYAMA said, in a book with a title "ADVANCED KARATE" there are 8 style fo throw down::

•  Kataguruma,
•  Tai othosi,
•  De ashoi harai,
•  Ko Uchi gare
•  Soto maki momi.

trere are many style of locking in ju jitsu and the way to release from it.

Trere is no philosophic difference between Judo and Ju jitsu, up to now, in the Japanese litearure about "Traditional Martial Arts", Ju jitsu is categorized as BU JUTSU (martial arts / combat art) not as sport, with another kind of martial arts, such as: KEN JUTSU, IAI JUTSU (sword fighting), SHURIKEN JUTSU (knife throwing), KYU JUTSU (arrow), etc.

Ju jisu came to Indonesia at the pasific war, it was brought by Japanesse troops. FERRY SONNEVILLE is one of indonesian people that take the opportunity to learn Ju jitsu from them.

in 1950 after Indonesian independence, Ju jitsu and Judo were growing in Indonesia.FERRY SONNEVILLE, BUDI LENG, M.A. AFFENDI, DARDJAT DS well known as the founding father of Judo & Jiu Jitsu Association Djakarta ( JAD ), then Budi leng specialing him self to Judo, in 1955 Ferry Sonneville and M. A. Affendi declare Jiu Jitsu Club Djakarta ( JCD ) in Jakarta, then JCD become JCI (JIU JITSU CLUB INDONESIA ), and spread through out the country.

JIU JITSU CLUB INDONESIA is the member of WORLD JU JUTSU FEDERATION ( WJJF ) with It's central office at Liverpool, UK. for South East Asia in JAN DE JONG'S SELF-DEFENCE SCHOOL, Perth , Western Australia , teached by MR. JAN DE JONG, DAN VIII.

Indonesian Ju Jitsu Club logo is a throw down style picture with a circle in the words of Jiu Jitsu Club Indonesia dan a picture of 2 lotus, in in the 9 hollow, with yellow color and black back ground. Yellow means of a great spirits and black means a firm in the heart and Throw down picture is an idenfitying mark of Ju jitsu. and the 9 hollow shows the 9 founding father of JCI, and the lotus with 5 leaves means Pancasila.

Historic marks of Jiu Jitsu in Jakarta:

• In Dutch era in Indonesia (1930-1937), there was a indonesian chinese making a Ju jitsu Practicing place called MOLEN FLIET, and a few years later that place become antique store called POLIM.
• In the world war II in 1940 at MENTENG, central Jakarta, there were many dutch people that stay there, there were a Ju jitsu training place that join with boxing, fencing, at HOS Cokroaminoto Street, then that place become a painting gallery (Balai Budaya Building).
• in 1948 Mr Ferry Sonneville teach Ju jitsu at Krekot Street No. 1955 until 1955. when he contiued his study in netherlands in 1955 the Ju jitsu training is organized by M. A. Affendi till he died at 1987. The president of JCI is still Drs. Ferry Sonneville up to now.
• at 1955 Ju jitsu and Judo has one organization "Jiu Jitsu & Judo Association Djakarta (JAD)", then it was separated at 11 December 1595. Because Ju jitsu not only in Jakarta but also spread to other city such as: Yogyakarta, Purwokerto, Surabaya , Palembang , and Medan, JCD become JCI.
• Dick Schilder teach Ju jitsu in Bandung at 1950, and Bet Ling Ong in Bogor, then came up a neworganization under Police department " Institut Ju Jitsu Indonesia (IJJI)."
• JCI has become member of Jiu Jitsu International yaitu World Ju Jitsu Federation with its central office at Liverpool , UK. some of JCI member had granted DAN V dan DAN IV by WJJF

Ju jitsu in Yogyakarta, began in 11 March 1966, the first exercise in Patangpuluhan held by Robin DS, a sport teacher.he teach till 1968 than continued by Sugeng Nursigit (dead at 17 January 1986 in Jogjakarta), Koen Pradono, Koen Praseno, Hindargo Nugroho.
