James Beattie James Beattie (1735-1803)

Beattie's main accomplishment as a poet was his poem "The Minstrel," published in 1774, and represented a transition to Romanticism.

Born in Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, he became professor of moral philosophy at Aberdeen in 1760.
