65th Anniversary

I believe that this event will be the largest in the Fall 2004 semester. This is because it will require the work and cooperation of more people than usual for a typical APO event. Here are the key players working on the 65th Anniversary Celebration:

Newsletter Committee- This group creates the preview for this event. The newsletter advertises anniversary in advance to send the message  early to give recipients time to prepare.

Alumni Secretary- It just so happens that I get this job at a moment when the largest planned event is underway. The Alumni Secretary will do most of the coordination with the help of the 65th Committee. This person also obtains contacts with the alumni so that they know about the event and encourages participation for it. I am also a chairman of the 65th Anniversary Committee.

Historian- Both the past and present officers contribute to provide the historical backdrop of this event. They do the research and provide informative visual displays to share with the rest of the fraternity, as part of the Gamma Beta History Project.

Fellowship- This committee will create and organize activities that may be done during the event. These activities will incorporate the active and alumni members to collaborate together. They will also provide the master of ceremony during the event.

Sgt. At-Arms- These officers will catalog all the Alpha Phi Omega, Gamma Beta Chapter's memorabilia and distribute it to

Alumni- These people are the stars of the anniversary and it is vital that as many of them show up as possible. They also help in providing content for the event and the newsletter.

Robert Peeks- This alumni helped with the 50th Anniversary celebration and is continues to help fifteen years after. He is currently working with us on a database that contains the personal information of all our past members.

Richwood Borja- This person is the motivating factor behind this event. This co-chairman of the 65th Anniversary has the skill, ambition, and will to make this dream come true.

09.12.2004:
It is semi-official: I will head the 65th Anniversary Committee. Richwood may take charge as well, so we will share the responsibility. I was thinking of taking this position earlier, but I realize that my time is limited. Even though I am unemployed and go to classes two days a week, I attend 2 clubs and one fraternity. This extracurricular activity is a lot of work. The four classes that I am taking are quite challenging as well. This was why I could not commit fully to the 65th Anniversary chair. I will still work for this event because other people put much effort into this event (Cindy, Richwood, Mike Lynch, Phi). I would not want to see their work deteriorate. We could delay the event until next semester (like the 50th anniversary), but APO Reunion is next semester. I really dislike postponement because it alters our schedules, which is rather inconvenient. I will also co-chair this because many others are too busy to do this work, but they are still looking forward to it. I do not want others to be disappointed. I really want them to be happy. That is what I live for, and no one can change that.
08.22.2004: I realize that we have to raise money for this spectacular show. We already have funds from alumni donations. However, we may need more money. We could probably save money with Gamma Gamma by sharing resources. We will need to expand our outreach to the alumni to get input from them. We also need ideas. If you have an idea, feel free to tell us about it by any means necessary.
08.01.2004: I was thinking of merging the Alumni Club, Newsletter Committee, and 65th Anniversary Committee into one group. First of all, I am in all three groups. Second, they all do similar things and need to use the same resources to accomplish their respective objectives. Third, it will save time and money for all three groups if they shared everything. This does not mean that  a person who wants to help in a specific field has to work in all three sections. We can still divide labor and make no one responsible for things that they do not want to do. Everything is voluntary. The three groups will  all end up with the same result: a successful 65th Anniversary celebration.
