Tawau as Land of Agriculture

Tawau is blessed with large hectares of fertile soil. Majority of the areas of the Tawau residency is planted with oil palm trees, cocoa and rubber. Tawau is still the largest cocoa producer in Malaysia. This has lead to the construction of a Malaysian Cocoa Research Centre in Apas Balung, located about 30km from the town center.
