Ports In Tawau

The ports in Tawau are closely located to each other. This makes the business sectors easier in handling their shipments and cargo deals. The existing Tawau airport is located about 5km from the town centre while the seaport is located within the town area. Tawau Seaport Tawau port is one of the 8 main ports in Sabah. The facilities are impressive and the port is accessible by world shipping. Tawau port handled 775 358 tonnes of cargo in 1994.

Tawau Airport

Tawau airport is one of the most important airports in Sabah. During the early days, the airport only cater small aircrafts. In the early 80's, MAS's Boeing 737 made a maiden flight to Tawau airport. The airport now is under the management of Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) and was later being renovated by MAB to make it more managable and to be able to cater the increasing passengers. Tawau airport handles domestic flights and one international flight to Tarakan in Kalimantan, Indonesia. A new Tawau International Airport located 31km from the town centre has now replaced the old airport.
