Book Review-Number the Stars Number the Stars was an interesting book. It is about World War Two in Denmark. The main character is Annemarie. The supporting characters are Ellen, Kirsti and Annemarie and Kirsti's mother, Mrs. Johansen. The story is about Ellen and her family, and how they are Jewish. It is a story of bravery and friendship and will remind the readers that differences don't matter. It also shows readers that the bond between these two girls cannot be broken no matter how far apart they may be. It is a heart warming story, and will forever change the way you treat a person. It is a fairly easy book, it's reading level is for about grade five, so it's a book that almost anyone can read. This is a great read, and educational at the same time. |
Book Review-Lost in the Barrens The book, Lost in the Barrens, is a heart warming tale about survival in Canada's harsh, but vast and beautiful north. The main characters are Jamie and Awasin. Jamie is an orphaned teenager from Toronto who moved up north to live with his hunting uncle. Awasin is a Cree from the land. When on a hunting trip another tribe, they find themselves lost. Now they must survive in the Arctic alone. This tale will tell you of how people must survive in the Arctic alone. This story will warm your heart and 'melt the ice' as you learn how the boys must depend on each other and the animals. Farley Mowatt is a great author and really captures the northern land. There are many supporting events that lead up to the climax, and anyone who enjoys survival books will enjoy Lost in the Barrens. |
Book Review- The Life of Pi The Life of Pi is a very interesting book. The main character is Piscine Patel, Pi for short. When a Japanese tanker sinks in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Pi finds himself in on a life boat with a crew of a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a Bengal tiger. Pi suffers many days alone on the waters. This story will make you feel like there is more than just you when you are alone. Like a review from a newspaper says, "This book will make you believe in God." And personally, I have to say, if you don't believe in a God, or more than one god, how is it that a 16 year old boy could stay alive on a life boat with these animals? There has to be some bigger meaning to life, and The Life of Pi will make you ponder the greater meanings of life. |
