Analysing A Midsummer Night's Dream

Need to find out more about the play? Start with the Reading Guide. The first few pages help place the play in the context it was written, and gives some biographical facts on Shakespeare.

From there, go to Spark Notes to get more information. Read the introduction, and plot analysis. The character section highlights Puck, Bottom and Helena, and also gives a little sketch of the rest of the characters. There is also information on themes on this site.

Next visit Grade Saver to get another point of view from the information found in Sparks Notes. Of particular interest here is the Essays section of this site. Various characters, themes, and point of views are investigated in this section. It also gives a plot summary with an analysis following every Act.

Shakespeare Online also presents Essays that should help in analysing the play. It gives a Biography of the author, and information about the Globe Theatre. This is a super site for studying Shakespeare - many pages provide help for sourcing any of the articles you may use.

This downloadable study guide available from www.ulen.com is a fine resource for literary analysis. It includes information on the style of writing, rhyming, imagery, metaphor, and so much more.
