Speaker from the House©

If you always find yourself giving a speech or is aspiring to give one, then you should learn to tell stories effectively.

I learned in the first few speeches I made, that a long talk couldn’t be sustained without illustrative stories or anecdotes. Often times, anecdotes are the saving grace of my talk. Before I learned to sprinkle my talk with anecdotes, insomniacs simply love my speeches; they got a lot of free & effective  sleeping therapy from me.

Research shows that people retain only 20% of a delivered speech. The structure of a good story on the other hand ensures its better retention. No wonder storytelling is the major tool of transferring knowledge for a long, long time. This is why most of what we remember from the bible are stories and parables.

Learning to tell anecdotes effectively had given me some measure of popularity as a speaker in our religious community. In fact, my beautiful wife fell in love with my anecdotes and eventually noticed me, the storyteller. She’s the greatest reward I had for my effort of learning the art of storytelling.
