Introduction

1898 The Spanish American War

The brief war that the United States waged against Spain from April 25 to August 12, 1898 in the Caribbean and the Philippine Islands which resulted in the destruction of the Spanish navy by superior U.S. fleets. The defeat was the end for Spain as a colonial empire and signaled the rise of the United States as a military power.
