It's hard to believe these lyrics came from the same man who wrote "The Gunner's Dream". Still, the instrumental is kind of fun. | 7- Interstellar Overdrive Written by: Barrett Running Time: 9:41 Other Versions: London '66-'67 Rating: ***** Comments: From the awesome opening notes, through the psychedellic middle, and to the sudden cut-off at the end, this song is actually one of the best instrumentals the band has ever made, and by far the best song on this album. It's got a great beat and cool sound effects, and lasts just long enough to be considered one of the best songs of the early Floyd era. This album is made great by this and the first track. The songs range from the fairy tale-like "The Gnome" to the psychedellic "Interstellar Overdrive". There are a few stand-outs, but over-all the songs are consistently decent. This is almost nothing like later works of the band, but it is good for different reasons. |
