Got to Granada pretty late at night, which I try not to do since its harder to find places to stay. I lucked out because a nice lady asked me at the train station if I had a place to stay. Since I didn't, I opted to stay at her place - a nice flat close to all the sights. Early the next day, I took a bus to the Sierra Nevada mountains to climb the second highest peak - Veleta (3470m/11384 ft).

Met up with a Dutch girl and her English friend and climbed with them for a while.

Some of the snowfields were quite steep. One slip and death is certain. OK, more like a wet butt is certain.

I
conquered
Veleta!!!

I
conquered
Veleta!!!

I climbed alone for quite a while (everyone else was too slow). It was very cold and windy at the top. Well below freezing. The day before, the mountain was off limits because the winds were too strong. I couldn't stand for long without my hood up and my hands deep in my pockets. Wouldn't you know that I sent home my fleece jacket just two days before this?

The girls finally made it to the top, just as I was getting ready to go back down. The two other German girls had to turn back before the summit because they were too cold.

We removed our oxygen masks just long enough for this photo to be taken.

Later that evening, I met up with the 4 girls I met on the climb for some drinks (yes, I was feeling like a stud). I had to leave early because the two girls who were staying in the same flat as me (Elleni & Liz) said that they would make a big pasta dinner for the three of us (I was definitely feeling like a stud - so many girls...). We had a great dinner and tried to find the original 4 later on, but couldn't. We ended up at a few bars and danced and drank for a while, but we were pretty low-key. On the way back to our flat, we came across about 10 very drunk Spanish women, who convinced us to come with them to a nearby club. We were not dressed as fine as they were (damn backpacking clothes), but went along anyways. I ran back to the flat to get my camera (too many times I had said "Damn, I wish I had my camera").

Once we got far enough down, we stopped for some lunch.

These two were actually fighting over me!

The winner (that would be me)!

Don't I look like I'm the clubbing type?

We partied until 5:30am. Liz, Elleni and I left even though the place was still hopping. I had to be a good tourist the next day.

More Granada, but a little more sedate on the next page...
