Anthony, Jenn and I got into Rome pretty early. We couldn't get into our hostel of choice, but we managed to find a decent enough place nearby. Excited to be in Rome, we started to wander around the city. We first stumbled onto the Colosseum.

The reason why its so incomplete is that Romans pilfered the marble to make newer monuments, until they smartened up.  Google Map

Doesn't look like it did in "Gladiator."

The labyrinth below what used to be the colosseum floor.

The Arch of Constantine (built in 312 AD)

"On my signal, unleash hell!"

Some ruins in the Roman Forum - some of Rome's oldest ruins.

The great Caesar prepares to address his loyal subjects.

Hiding behind a bush, I stripped down to my underwear, climbed on a pedestal and did my best impression of Michelangelo's David. Sad, eh?

More ruins in the Roman Forum.  Google Map

Me, Jenn and Anthony.

Anthony and I couldn't resist the romantic call of ancient Rome.

VIew of the entire Roman Forum.

I'm just casually looking over my shoulder here while sitting on a fountain.

We got completely soaked when we got caught in a sudden thunderstorm. We opted to just keep walking.

The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

More Sistine Chapel.

St. Peter's is so large that most North American churches could fit inside.

The light always does this to me when I'm in a chapel.

More Roman fountains, cathedrals and other assorted ruins on the next page...
