Status: kinda tired ~ Listening to: Loveless tv series

Busy busy busy....

I'm done packing for the retreat. We'll be leaving for NJ (not Penn. as I originally thought ^^;) at 4:30pm. I'll be back on Monday, so no updates until then. I slept from 3am to 11am in the morning today...not that bad...its the most sleep I got the past 3 weeks. I finally converted all my Loveless series into amv files so that I can place them onto my mp4 player. Added FMA episodes 13 and 37 on it too...to balance out the drama with some humor. ^-^ I'll either be watching anime on the way there, or reading 'Clamp School Paranormal Investigators' vol. 1...or a mixture of the two. (Sleeping as well...since sleeping is very important. ^.^)

I'll call you guys if I get reception there...though that is highly unlikely. (Last year's retreat place was the first time I ever got reception at ANY retreat/gospel camp area. ^^;) Until than...see you next month. lol ^.^

Butterflies everywhere....

I'm on such a Loveless craze that I spent most of my free time today looking for Loveless cels.... No good.... ^^; Besides that, I've been looking at anything related to butterflies: shirts, jewelery, cell phone thingies...etc.... I totally fell in love with Paradise Kiss butterfly cellphone strap. It's black butterfly with purple and blue 'highlights'. I think I'm going to buy it just because it has a butterfly and it's black. ^.^ Yup...it has been accepted that I'm officially a fanatic of the Loveless series. Actually, I think we established that sometime earlier this month.... ^^;

It. Has. ARRIVED!

My Loveless doujinshi and shitajiki board is here! *dances around the room* 'Love Mode' by Yun Kouga-sensei looks pretty cute...but I'm too in awe to open it just yet. *stares at the pretty cover* My first doujinshi...and by the creator mangaka as well.... *fangirl squeal* Okay enough silliness...I have to go to school for choir practice. (For the retreat that is this weekend. No, I don't have any idea where we're going. ^^;)

Karaoke mp3 postponed

Since it's hard dividing my time between finishing my story and practicing singing (I've been alternating the two,) I'm going to postpone uploading my mp3s until after I finish my story. Gomen for the delay.... ^^;

FMA limited edtion: NA version!

As promised (since I asked the Funimation ppl themselves ^-^) they came out with a limited edition of the FMA movie! *dances* It has some of the items that the Japanese ltd. ed. has, like postcards and a book. The preorder price on amazon is only $25! O.O I'm going to preorder it...once I replenish my resources from my LOVELESS shopping spree. ^^; Amazon is funny...marking the price as $24.99 instead of just $25. I'm going to buy something else just so I can get the free shipping. ^^;

More dvd mania: Eva style

The 10th Anniversary boxset edition of Evangelion is up for preorder. As some have mentioned, this is like the 3rd or 4th edition ever produced. The coolness of it is that it has all the extra videos ever created, an art booklet and more. For $169.99 as the preorder price, I truly hope 'Death and Rebirth' and 'End of Evangelion' is included. I was planning to get the platinum edition of Eva...but I think I'll hold out for this one. Unfortunately, the regular price is $249.58...so I hope it goes down after it's released. ^^;

Both the FMA and Eva sets are coming out on Nov. 14, 2006.... ^-^

LOVELESS dvd feedback: part 2

I finished watching vol. 2 and 3 of the series. *sigh* The ending always saddens me...but today it's worse than ever. (Don't worry, I'll watch something funny later to cheer me up. ^^;) I'll talk about the battle scenes first as followup to my other entry. The rest of the battles don't have any romanji at all and as usual only what is spoken is translated. (It's always good to have fansubs as backup since they translated the bright glowing letters in the battles as well as various text that may be floating around.)

The translation for the last two dvds are almost the same as the fansubs, except for changes which usually occur during key lines. (Which kinda worries me since a simple change in word effects how the situation is viewed.) Like the line "You're gonna have to kill me..." in the dvd has a different connotation to "You will kill me..." in the fansubs. As a whole, I'm still quite happy with the results. (Gotta learn Japanese to make a better evaluation.... ^-^)

Other changes to note are concerning certain words. Soubi is described as "lolicon" in Japanese, but "pervert" in the translation. I know what "lolicon" is, so it doesn't effect me as much...but there may be other words that I have no idea about. ^^; Some words that were kept in Japanese is "sayonara" and "shabu shabu."

I don't know if it's slang, a mistake in grammer or that whoever typed the subtitles just got lazy...but words like "teach" instead of "teacher" and "doc" instead of doctor kinda appears every once in awhile. I don't really think it's laziness since sometimes the entire name appears like "Doctor Katsuko" even though the character just said "doctor." ^^; Definite slang that appears is the phrase "Yikes" and...something else that I can't remember right now. ^^; There was one grammer mistake that I noted in the last episode...I wonder if anyone proofreads/watches the series before they market it.

dvd review site?

lol Maybe I should host a dvd review site for all the anime dvds that I watch and write about. There is already a site animeondvd.com, that post reviews that concentrate on packaging, content, voice acting and sometimes translation. My own reviews are mostly comparison between fansubs and dvds, translation and subtitling. I want to strive for the best translation, since I can't really understand the Japanese version on my own. ^-^

I got the doujinshi!

*does happy dance* I bid and won the Loveless doujinshi "Love Mode" made by the awesome creator herself, Yun Kouga. Yay! Hence, this is why I'm online at 3 in the morning/night. I'll be going to sleep soon enough, but I thought to share the tremendous joy that has overtaken me. ^_^ I decided to hold off on the butterfly belt since I want to check out the asian Japanime markets in our area to see if I can get it for cheaper. (It's $11 online.... >.<;) Okay...enough shopping! I must sleep! *sleeps* -.-Zzz

Status: satisfied ~ Listening to: China Girl - Sweetbox

LOVELESS dvd feedback

I just watched the first vol...and I'm very happy with it. ^-^ Obviously, I don't need to worry about censorship (like Disney's Japanimation *ahem*) but I was concerned with translation. (Not that I can tell the difference if it is actually wrong.) Some things to note was that instead of referring to them as 'fighters', the subtitles kept them as 'sentouki'...which is pretty awesome. The spells are kept in romanji as well...though in the second battle, they put the romanji and the translation together. I won't know until the next vol. if they still put both the romanji and translation together.

Obviously, there were differences between the fansubs and the dvd. Beyond the fact that there were one or two grammer mistakes, ^^; I feel that the translators for the dvds may be more reliable. Their words are more descriptive...and sometimes confusing. I conclude that the complicative language eludes to a closer translation...though I could be wrong.

I only found two obvious instances of Western slang...with word 'flaky' and the phrase 'nipped it in the bud'. It doesn't deviate from the meaning though...just that I think that they didn't do direct translation. Otherwise, many differences between the fansubs and dvds are concerning the choice in words. I won't know much else until I learn Japanese. ^-^ Beyond that, they had the SD theaters that were included on the dvds (yay for ultra kawaii-ness!) and textless opening. (Textless ending is on vol. 2.) *happy sigh* I'm totally thrilled for these dvds...I can't wait to read the manga! (I'm refraining from reading the manga since only 2 vol. came out in the U.S...and I know I'll finish reading the scanlations in no time at all.) *dance around the room*

Bestbuy hopping

Instead of sitting down for lunch, I took my hour (and a half) and went to all the Bestbuys in my area. Why? To buy my Loveless dvds of course! *grin* The first store I hit had nothing. However, a really nice worker looked up the dvds on the computer and told me which branch had all 3. O.O Of course, that's where I went. And then...I got them! *dances with the dvds* I'm so happy.... Oh yeah, I had my Japanese co-worker read me the ultra light Japanese text on the dvd covers. They were all lines that one of the characters would say...mostly Soubi's lines. "I will protect Ritsuka...." *squeal*

Bestbuy tip

You are supposed to be able to check out a store's inventory on the Bestbuy website. HOWEVER, that's not totally true. According to the website, the Bestbuy in front of my house does not have any of the Loveless dvds. Not true. I went to the store and found vol. 2 and 3. The worker at the LI bestbuy checked on their own system and was able to tell me which store had my dvds. So...if you're looking for a dvd and the website saids a particular store doesn't have it, just ask a worker at any Bestbuy. They have their own inventory system that is more accurate than what is online. (Don't believe them if they said "It's the same as online." I proved them wrong. ^-^)

Present plans...and shopping.

Besides working on mp3s, I'm going to buy the original Loveless dvds, the butterfly belt as well as bid on a doujinshi made by the creator of Loveless. Can you say super obsessed? lol Hopefully, all this buying will conclude by this coming Saturday.

Most of all...I'm working on a new story. *gasp* *shock* *faint* I only have the opening typed up, and the inspiration is there, but I'm trying to write without being tied down by my past. Ironically, the tentative title is 'Chained'. I'm mentioning it since if I disappear from the net a few days at a time, you'll know that it is because I'm working on a new story. ^^; At least I'm trying....

Otakon 2006 Masquerade Memories: youtube style

I didn't attend this year's masquerade...that is...I didn't go see it. I found some clips of some of the skits on youtube. Here are the links to them with descriptions. Please note, alot of the clips were uploaded by chibimaria. Chibimaria's clips are one of the closest and clearest...however, the music and video is kinda off. If there is a second link, that means I found another clip that has the music and video in-sync, but may not be as clear. ^-^

    Magna Carta ~ another - This is one of the most creative skits and fav from what I have seen of this masquerade. ^-^ Wish I saw this in person...it is pretty awesome.
    Street Fighter - This was the most technical based skit I have seen so far at any convention. The guys really knew the foundations of martial arts...which was great for their characters.
    Riku and Sora danceoff ~ another - Just what I always wanted: Riku and Sora facing off...in a dancing competition! Though poor Sora got his butt kick since Riku was just too awesome. ^^;
    China Girl dance - This is a mixture of different fandoms, dancing to "China Girl" by Sweetbox.
    Legend of Zelda - I dub this skit "Waiting to be Rescued." You'll see why. (FYI, Link is carrying every weapon and item he collects from the games before reaching the final boss. You'll see why this is important.... ^-^) Funny....
    Death Note - People are just dropping dead...and it's just too funny.... ^^;
    Kingdom Hearts II Ending - KHII ending spoilers...quite well done. I really like the various characters and of course the ending moment. As someone commented, the ending is always hard to do as a skit.

For posterity sake and your enjoyment. ^.^

Xenosaga III status: complete!

Theresa-nee-chan finished playing Xenosaga and burned me a copy. ^-^ I'm going to be watching this next week...but I'm kinda sad since I already know one of the events...and it's not a happy event. It's going to be awhile before they come out with Xenosaga IV, but as long as they make cg-ed cut scenes (rather than 'big-head' text boxes with static screens,) they can take all the time they want. (Not too long I hope.... ^^;)

I brought up the idea with Theresa-nee-chan last week about shounen ai pairings in Xenosaga. My fav pairing is Gaignun and Jr. ^^; Surprisingly, she hadn't given pairings much thought before I talked about it but she quickly warmed up to the idea. ^.^ Working quickly (as always) she zeroed in on several fanfics. The most popular b-love pairing is actually not Gaignun and Jr...though I can't remember which of them was it.... ^^; The most popular hetero pairing is Momo and Jr. (No surprise there. ^.^)

Dancing the night away...sorta....

Similar to last week, we basically played video games (DDR with the controller...because downstairs started to complain from our dancing/jumping.... ^^;) Christine-nee-chan and I discussed the merits of a Japanese PS2 and a Japanese DDR game. There seems to be a delay on the Japanese game itself...either driving us crazy or 'training' us to have a quicker reaction time. Either way, o-nee-chan can have some time figuring that out since they have my PS2. Of course, Theresa-nee-chan would have the console more often since she is going to play Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix. We tried it on the machine...and it works! Unfortunately, since my PS2 system is an older model, it couldn't play Initial D. (Older models can't play dual layers.) Christine-nee-chan will have to wait for the PS3. I hope my other PS2 games will work.... *worried*

They lent me 'Karaoke Revolution' (the US versions.) Though...they have my PS2 so I won't be playing it for awhile. ^^; Ne, P-chan, should I bring it to your house so we can play on your PS2? It's karaoke....

contemplation: BBQ vs. wedding

*warning* Confusing logic and melancholy thoughts ahead. Read at your own discretion. ^^;

My co-worker's house party/bbq and a wedding of a long-time friend from my old church were both today. I didn't really compare these events in my mind and made a decision because that would be pointless. Obviously, the wedding should be the event to go to due to the importance and history of friendship I have with them. However, that would be the logical decision if I reconciled with the idea of weddings and 'love' in general. Due to my selfishness, I deprived myself of spending time and rejoicing over a union with friends. I'm close friends with the groom and he used to tease me and call me 'Margaret' after the stuck up, glass wearing girl in 'Dennis the Menance'. Don't ask how I acquired such a nickname since I'm not sure myself.... ^^; That's probably how he'll greet me if I had went. But I didn't and I'm only slightly regretful.

The bbq was fun, but that's not why I'm only a bit regretful. I thought over my decision a long time even before I knew about the house party. I knew that if I went, my happiness for the marriage will be tainted with my own bitter thoughts. In short, this is a lose-lose situation. I'm not totally thrilled about missing the wedding and I know I won't be totally thrilled if I was there. Only now...I'm not bitter about not going...just regretful. *shrugs* Being totally regretful would be pointless as well.

Okay, enough deep thoughts! I'll now bring you back to your regular programming. ^.^

FMA Wank: Censorship? Viz sucks!

This seems to be an outcry of FMA fans when it was announced that the FMA manga vol. 8 had an edited scene. Viz stated that any 'minimal edits' were done with permission from the creators. I don't like any changes since I like my manga exactly like the Japanese. I think Viz and Funimation did an awesome job with packaging and marketing the products: the manga and dvds of NA and Japan are almost exactly the same. The translation (which I'm fastidious about) and even the mini comics, pics in the manga weren't excluded. I give props to the companies for that level of detail. Viz came a long way from Ranma 1/2. ^.^

That aside, I think it's hilarious that fans say that 'Viz sucks to hell!' over this change since the company had been very mature over how they handled censorship recently. The edit doesn't take away from the story...just that they eliminated the religious aspect of the pic. (FMA has many religious undertones...not moreso than Evangelion though. ^.^') I'll probably be more pissed about the change...if I didn't buy the Taiwanese version. ^^; I don't think that pic was edited in the Taiwanese manga...though I can't remember. ^^; *goes home to check vol. 8*

A new option is that you can now change the outlook of the site...meaning change the backgrounds. ^.^ Below this iframe is a little box...click it and another layout will appear. (Location and contents are still the same since I'm still very happy with the way things are. ^-^) There is only one choice now, but I'll be uploading more backgrounds soon enough. ^^;

The new background is from the series Loveless. I uploaded today's wma before, but I'm bringing it back to celebrate my new layout. (I know the readability of text has diminished somewhat...but I hope to fix that. ^^;)

Another update is that now you can check out previous layouts of this site in the atrophy section. So far, only clips of the current two layouts are there, but I'll be digging into my site pics to get the old ones...as bad as they may be. ^^;

Return of the yaoi page....

Since I'm not going to put up a cosplay comparison site (read previous entry,) I decided to bring back the yaoi section that I took down. (Another reason is that I know the current yaoi page in my Otakon '06 convention pics section is very lacking.... ^.^) Instead of hiding it, I placed it in the viable page. I placed the link in plain sight since it has warning like the other yaoi section. ^.^ Alot of the pics are from the Otakon '05 convention, so you may have seen them already. But when I find more yummy pics, I'll be adding them there. Hope you yaoi/yuri lovers out there will enjoy this. (*ahem* Pearl-chan, Theresa-nee-chan and Christine-nee-chan. ^.^)

Cosplay comparison site: Canceled

Contrary to previous announcements, I have decided not to put out a cosplay comparison page. Part of the reason is laziness. The other part eludes to the fact that I'm truly an amateur cosplayer and to make such comparisons and comments will place me in a position of elitism that I'm not ready for. Concerning japanime, wank and social (not political) issues, I'll freely rant/comment about. Cosplay however...I don't want to insult any cosplayers that may have the misfortune of stumbling onto my site. ^^; So...with this note, there will be no cosplay site.

As for my other plan...I'm still working on uploading my own anime mp3s. I might sing 'Scarlet' from Ayashi no Ceres, but that is not certain as of yet. ^-^ We'll just have to wait and see!

Gaming until 4am....

On friday night, both of my godsisters were playing Xenosaga III (they each have the game and a console. ^^;) I stayed up until 4am watching them play, giving them encouragement and asking questions. ^-^ It was fun for me and I saw more spoilers than I care to mention right now. Hopefully, by next friday, they'll be done with the game. They're almost at the last stages of the game. One of my o-nee-chan's is trying to get the final weapons for each of the characters. (That reminds me, I need to find some info on the mini game so she can get Jr.'s weapon. ^.^) I'm going to sleepover at my godsisters' next friday (again.) Turns out, Theresa-nee-chan got Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, a Japanese version of the English game with lots of extras. I'm lending her my Japanese PS2 so she can play the game. ^.^

Christine-nee-chan has many Konami games: DDR, Karaoke and even Taiko drumming. I spent alot of saturday morning playing. ^-^ I want to get Konami's karaoke game...the Japanese versions so we can sing anime songs. ^.^ The drumming game was alot of fun too...maybe next time I go to Japan, I play in public...maybe not.... ^^; O-nee-chan is going to lend me the karaoke game. It's just like a karaoke machine, only instead of MVs, the scenes are CG singers. Totally fun....

Red Doors

The movie itself was enjoyable. The drama was there, though it was balanced out with humorous and light moments. No one died and the ending was on the happy side. The story was about a Chinese American family. The father-a medical doctor-was going through post-retirement syndrome. His 3 daughters were at different stages in their lives. The youngest had an interesting 'relationship' with her male classmate...which comprises of extreme pranks that include a 'doo-doo-bomb' (my own name for it,) firecrackers in the locker, and dyeing the family dog pink. *sigh* Young love.... ^^; The oldest is planning her wedding (Americanized or Asian-ized and the middle daughter is trying to find a significant other. Through it all, the Chinese mother is 'trying to understand the world that is changing around her.' ~paraphrasing the writer of 'Red Doors'

The main cast, some of the background crew and writer/creator of the movie was at the screening and they answered a few questions. Of course, questions concerning the racial/social aspects of the movie was discussed. The only questions I wanted to ask (but never got the chance/courage) was about the dog: Who does Lucky (the dog) belong to? and Did you ever dye him back to his original color? lol Menial questions, but my thoughts nonetheless. Afterwards we went to the Apple Lounge for drinks and snacks. I got home around 3:30am so it was another 'go to sleep at 4' nights. -.-Zzz

Xenosaga III: gamers info

My godsisters are currently playing Xenosaga III so all info are from them. I'm happily waiting for them to finish so that I can watch the cutscenes. ^.^ So far the game comprises of good news...and bad news. Bad news is that the rumors were proven true in that the cutscenes were diminished in order to speed up the making of the game. 2/3 of the game comprises of text boxes instead of the characters speaking. This really sucks since the VAs are actually pretty good. Good news is that the VAs of Shion and KOS-MOS from the first game returned...though MOMO's didn't. *sigh*

The storyline is awesome IMO and there are interesting moments...like an intimate convo between two characters after some intense 'lone time'...ahem.... ^.^ As a treat for the fanboys, there is even a shower scene. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a shower scene for the fangirls. ^^; When more info pops up, I'll be posting them. ^.^

Weekend plans

On saturday, I'll be going to see an Asian independent film titled 'The Red Door.' I don't know much about it except that my co-worker's friend is the director and both the director and the casts are going to be there...which should be interesting. ^.^ I'm not up for dramas, but they talked me into going after mentioning that we'll be eating dinner afterwards. Land of the ultra cute (but totally gay) guys. ^.^

After so long planning...I finally went to Fire Island with my church friends. ^.^ The ferry ride there and back was so beautiful: wind in our hair with a light ocean spray and fantastic view. We were planning to bike 1/4 of the island from Ocean Bay to Cherry Grove. Turns out we can't bike across the island since it's not a touristy but an actual residential area. ^-^ Instead, we walked the length of the beach, ate yummy seafood, and stared at some nice...um...torsos...and buttocks. *grin* It was totally great (kinda tiring) but alot of fun.

FYI, P-chan, next time we go, let's take the ferry from Sayville directly to Cherry Grove since that's the 'hot spot' on Fire Island. The lighthouse is at another end though...so we either need to take a water taxi...or walk which will take a good several hours. ^^;

vineyard = animals O.O

After Fire Island, we headed to Martha Clara Vineyard for wine tasting. I left the groupie at the wine tasting area to explore the fields outside. Such beautiful weather. ^.^ I discovered and fed some goats (they had $.25 goat-food dispensers,) sheep, a pig and lots of horses. I spent the afternoon picking grass to feed the horses. The others drank their wine and some picked flowers. Afterwards, we headed home. *yawn* It was a fulfilling and enjoyable day...though I was amazingly tired and slept at any chance I got in the cars. ^-^

Convention 2007 updates!

I pre-reg for AnimeNEXT 2007 already. Also, I made reservations at the Sheraton Inner Harbor (the same hotel as this year) for Otakon 2007. I spent a loooongggg time looking for a good deal and when I found one cheaper than last year, I took it.

Jenn-chan said that she might want to cosplay next year. Pearl-chan and P-chan mentioned the same thing before...so I'm all for it! ^.^ If you guys need help with cosplay/wigs/props, just let me know. I'm no longer a novice, but still an amatuer...but I'll help out with what I can. ^-^ So far, it looks like a Kakashi, Sakura Kinomoto and a Youko Kurama.... lol These are only the ideas you guys gave me...but we'll be the most lively group in Stony if you guys cosplay at I-Con. ^.^ Looking forward to it!

It's been a month and I've been talking about it for awhile...but it's done! Check out the the Otakon 2006 gallery on the viable page. ^.^ The pics are hosted on another site so there shouldn't be any site crashes or that sort of problem. ^^; I worked on this usually late at night, so if there are any broken links or something doesn't look right, please let me know. Also, some of my anime info may be wrong...so please correct me. (I try to know as much as possible, but there is a limit to my extensive Japanime knowledge. ^-^) I don't have any quality inspecters since I'm a one person webmistress. ^^; Also, since I worked on the pics at night, my comments are also terse and at times strange. Just a small warning. ^-^

Now that this done, I'm going to be working on the other stuff: a side-by-side comparison cosplay gallery as well me singing anime songs. Ano...the singing may have to wait since my allergies are totally kicking in and I sound like Alby-kun on a bad day.
