Itomaki 2 Summary:The itomaki was originally used as a spool for winding or unwinding the silk thread used in looms to make kimono, haori, obi, and other traditional Japanese garments. These wooden itomaki are no longer used and are true antiques, for the modern version of the itomaki is plastic.

You can use the itomaki as a decorative item, conversation piece, or you can convert it for another use such as the base of a lamp. The silk thread on this itomaki is a persimmon orange color.
