Woodblock Print 5 Summary:This woodblock print is from 1901, which was in the heart of the Japanese Meiji era (34th year of the Meiji era). The artist is unknown, but the condition of this print is excellent. The design resembles a panel of a kimono from that era, with areas of the fabric that resemble shibori, or Japanese resist-dyeing. The scene could be one of a Shochikubai (pine, bamboo, and plum) motif, and seems to involve a boat on water passing these flora. There is a red-headed egret standing on one of the pines. A shochikubai scene has a meaning that connotes congratulations. Therefore, this print could make for an excellent congratulatory gift.
