The Year of the Tiger

Tiger Years and their Elements

Tiger is linked to the ancient Chinese element of wood. The symbolism of wood is as ambivalent as that of the tiger. As a tree, wood's branches reach for the sky while its roots anchor it to the earth. This endows tiger with the ability (not necessarily used) to moderate his impulsive behavior. Yet wood also gives the tiger passion, which can either lend gentleness to their behavior or make them violent and destructive.

This sociable tiger is particularly charming and witty - a real party animal. Wood tigers are very enterprising and good at thinking up grand schemes; the details, however, will be left to others to sort out. Apparebtly superficial emotionally, double wood tigers can actually become quite anxious - so they should try to keep stress under control.

This reserved tiger is endowed with compassion and is more sensitive to the needs of others than a typical tiger. Full of nobel ideas, combined with an ability to control passionate whims and look before leaping, this tiger can make a just and wise leader. A water tiger's life will be more calm than other tigers'. There is a tendency, though, for water tigers to be slightly pompous.

Tigers are already ingerently Yang; fire is also Yang. This doubling of the Yang force makes fire tigers incredibly active people. They are animated, exciting yet changeable characters. Sensitive to perceived slights, the fire tiger often has a very quick temper and can soon become explosive. Fortunately, bursts of temper never last long with this tiger. To really enjoy life, fire tiger needs to try and relax and take things at a more controlled pace.

1938, 1998
Unlike most other tigers, earth tiger is hardly impulsive at all, naturally less excitable, and not averse to stability and continuity. This tiger is very practical and fond of comfort. For such reasons, earth tigers tend to e more successful at long-term relationships than other tigers. There is a danger, however, that unless they give free rein to their dynamic Yang element, earth tigers can become real stick-in-the-muds. This should be avoided, and, instead, a more forward-looking mind should be cultivated.

This tough, outspoken tiger can sometimes be too bossy. Metal tiger is less ruled by the heart than typical tigers. Unfortunately, sometimes this only serves to make them unscrupulous. Metal tigers can be high achievers as they are very ambitious and self-disciplined. Advice to a metal tiger would be to try to listen to the wishes of others, practice tact, and be more flexible.
