| "after resisting it for as long as i could, i finally mied to london a couple of months ago. my family home is a farm on the lancashire moors between rochdale and bury, but all my work is in the south. both the royle family and my new series two pints of larger and a packet of crisps were filmed in london, and i got fed up with crashing out on friends floors. so i had to take the plunge, and now i have moved in with my girlfreind, the actress and tv presenter lisa rogers, and we share her flat in ealing. shes 29 and im 20, and its the first time ive lived with a girlfriend. ive told her that i love being a kid and she can b my surrogate mother. she'll have none of it. i keep trying to persuade her to to my washing and ironing, but she wont. she says "theres the mahine, do it yourself" and walks out. bang! we met last summer when we did a bbc choice series with mark owen called mark owens celebrity scooters. we all had to ride around belgium and holland on replicas of sixties scooters giving reports on the cites where euro 2000 matches were being played. we got on really well, and had such a good time. but we were just mates, and it was ages before anything happened. when the press found out we were together, i think they thought it was a publicity stunt, and i suppose it is a bit of a showbiz cliche. but were trying very hard not to play the celebrity couple, we really are. marriage? its too earlt to talk about that, but i think our relationship is going to last. its more then a fling, certianly. the other good thing that came out of the series was that we were both given our scooters. lisas is bright pink and mine is red. ive never riden a scooter, but its great for getting round london. i look dead silly pottering along, not at all king of the road, and i go slowly because the drivng skill is so aggressive. i know my way around, but i dont feel like a londoner. im not stresses by it, but its not my home. im not really a country man either, but at least on my parents farm you can see the hills on the horizan. heres its just more like buildings. i get home when i can, but the pattern in life is dictacted by work and its beenn a really busy year. ive been in a permanent state of confusion, feeling dizzy because i was never quite sure what i was doing next. ive been filming six days a week, but ive also been to africa with oxfam and presented my own show on mtv. im so lucky you wouldnt belive it. people say "whats it like being famous" but im not really. i dont get reconised a lot, though soe girls in pubs say "ere anthony royle, give us a snog", or they will pinch my bum. moro often then not they say "oh its him" the big bonus is i get to take part in charity football matches, ive played four times at wembley. i used to be very sporty-i played badminton for greater manchester, but now i dont have the time. i'd play football every night if i could. in the evenngs, i sometimes cook for us. im not afraid of giving it a go, and at least you get brownie points. i did bangers and mash, what my mum calls proper gravy for lisa once recently. if theres any thing i miss its my mums gravy. lisa was deleyed so i kept the sausages on low. when she arrived she was starving, but i thought the sausages were still a bit undercooked. she said " no, there fine" so we ate the lot. soons after woods i took her to jamie olivers resturant for her birthday, and jamie says to her "does he cook?" "no, hes rubbish in the kitchen, he did sausages the other day and they were really underdone" she says. |
