An Evening With Lily Savage |
|
In studio 1 at the London Studios, Lily performed for and answered questions from a celebrity audience including Robbie Williams, Margarita Pracatan and Gayle Tuesday. The show attracted 12 million viewers and was entered for the 'Montreaux Festival' in 1997. The show won the 'Most Popular Entertainment Programme' at 'The National Television Awards' in October 1997 followed by 'Best Entertainment Programme' award at the 'British Comedy Awards' in December of the same year. She sang 'You Took Advantage Of Me', in the style of Dean Martin, duetted on 'I Know Him So Well' with Barbara Dickson and finished the show with 'A Lamppost Attached To My Mac' as a tribute to Marlene Dietrich. She was rewarded with a standing ovation. Video release.

A man gets undressed in the backseat of a car as he is being driven. He puts on lipstick and when we see him make a grand exit at an event, he's got a wig piled high on his head. Though she never speaks any lines, the text later reads "I change my genes in mine. XO Lily". A clever special effects sequence then showed the change taking place. The final text suggestively asks, "Escort. What do you do in yours?"

Lily made numerous appearances on Richard and Judy's daytime show, taking part in the phone-in and generally reducing Judy to tears of laughter. The most memorable occasion took place in Liverpool when Lily got drunk during a wine tasting session and started throwing the wine glasses into the dock behind her. She improvised and began drinking straight from the bottles. Paul made one of his first major appearances as himself on the show on 9 December 1998.

Best known as a radio disc jockey, Steve also presented this light entertainment television series. In one show, Stewart Ferris, a writer and expert on flirting, dating techniques and relationships, was asked to try out his chat-up lines on a real girl, Lily. She was pretending to be in the supermarket and was dressed appropriately for the occasion in an orange mini skirt and matching fur jacket. Stewart - "Are you cooking for 2 tonight?" Lily - "I am actually, I've got a tapeworm." Stewart - "I wonder if I could join you. I promise to bring you flowers and maybe we could kiss under the moonlight." Lily - "I wouldn't kiss you under a general anaesthetic love!"

Late night, magazine style programme, which took a light hearted look at cultures around the world, with location and studio shoots. Featured various aspects of sex and kinkiness from the continent, hosted very tongue-in-cheek by Frenchman Antoine De Caunes. On one occasion, Lily visited Berlin and, glancing through the telephone directory, was astounded by the variety of services she could rent, e.g. naked cleaners. She had to try them out! Jack Dee hosted this quiz show with questions relating to the Seventies and specifically Glam Rock. Lily teamed up with Annie Nightingale who beat their opponents Alvin Stardust and Jo Brand but Lily failed on the head-to-head with Annie to win the star prize, a Ford Capri, which wouldn't start!

Lily guested on Gay Byrne's show alongside the group Pop Will Eat Itself. The band caused £1000 worth of damage to the studio and equipment and were so noisy in the hospitality suite that Lily threatened tp punch one band member.

The series was a swashbuckling fantasy comedy in which a family of pirates turned into landlubbers when they moved into a normal house in the twee town of Little-Wheedling-In The-Vale. Recorded at the London Studios on 23 November 1993 this was the first lesbian and gay Christmas show, which was hosted by Erasure's Andy Bell and Melissa Etheridge. Lily appeared along with Bob Downe, Julian Clary (as the voice of a reindeer), Stephen Fry, Lea deLaria, Colin Bell, Justin Fashanu, Quentin Crisp, and Armistead Maupin. Written by Mark Trevorrow and Kit Hesketh-Harvey, the show reached no. 14 of Channel 4's 100 Greatest Christmas Moments.

Mike Smith presented this quiz where two teams of celebrities battled it out to see who had the most knowledge of showbusiness.
Originally it was two teams of three, with the same team captains weekly. In the later series there were no team captains, just two teams of two celebrities. Rounds included the 'videoke' round (like karaoke but with videos) and the final one-minute round. Paul appeared for the first time as himself on one occasion because he'd left Lily's costume on the train from London up to Manchester.

Roach's transvestite snout, Roxanne, helps to uncover a child sex rent boy business. George Costigan (Rita, Sue and Bob Too fame and also Chimera) played Roxanne for a two part special called 'Old Enemies' (26/9/00) and 'New Friends' (29/9/00) in which Roxanne was killed off.
