HANDBOOK of the UNION/TERRAN KNIGHTS' COMMANDERS

~ Portal Runes to the Union Knights' Keep ~

This is the basic text and is required reading of all Union/Terran Knights' Commanders (CM's). Union Knights' CM's oversee those who represent the military elite of our realm and, as such, have the important responsibilities of training and supervising their Knights in manner allowing their personal growth and so that of all our Nation and Alliances.

I: Knights Commanders' Codes of Conduct

In addition to the Codes of Conduct decreed for all Union Members and the laws set forth in our Knights' Handbook a Union/Terran Commander must also adhere to these as well:

1. A Union Commander (CM) takes on the important and awesome responsibility of leading others in their understanding of our Union, Alliance and our combined philosophies and goals. This can be a very daunting task but a CM must portray at all times an air of authority and understanding. This alone may turn many from the task: consider this well before agreeing to take a Command.

2. A Union CM will be knowledgeable in all Union Law, the Knights' Handbook and at least one area of expertise as described in Chapter Three of this text. Here it is important to note the CM needs not know everything but should know how to readily find any answers which may be presented of any Knights, members or visitors.

3. A Union CM will never count his worth in the quantity of his troops but in their quality. At any time a CM finds one in his fold which would be better suited to another Order he should immediately suggest a transfer of said Knight. In this way the Knight will be able to better develop along her chosen path and the entirety of our Alliance will find greater benefit as a result.

4. At all public functions a Union CM will expect of those in his Command a proper salute and the honor deserved him of his post. Likewise, a CM will always show respect for her Knights, never publically berate or humiliate them and see that an air of comraderie is maintained among all Order members to show all in attendance what our Knights truly stand for and are made of.

5. In private Order functions the CM has more freedoms of behavior but a sense of honor should be maintained for all Knights at all times. If a Knight needs correction or guidance it is best to confer with this Knight privately or for the CM to discuss these matters with said Knight's next in command to have her deal with the situation.

6. The CM is responsible for seeing the weekly rank increase tally is complete for his group and is turned into the LS and appropriate LW in a timely fashion.

II: Ranks of the Union Knights: Commanders

1. Technically speaking a Union Knight may take on the role of CM at the rank of CP. The actual title though is not bestowed until the Knight reaches at least SG and has proven the ability to lead and an expertise in an area of needed leadership as noted by CC, HC or LS.

2. Regaurless of rank the CM becomes the sole authority over his Knights, below only the higher ranking CMs of the same group, CC, HC and LS. While respect for those of greater (and indeed lesser) rank is required, the CM is the primary authority over his own Command or Order.

3. The CM should at all times be aware of the activities within her group and be ever diligent in providing missions for those under her who seek such. Always use the strengths of each individual to improve upon both their advancement and that of your command.

4. Understand most who would take the title of Knight are ambitious. This may be of benefit or detriment to your command and should always be under your careful scrutiny. Any who would use their ambitions to further the cause of your command and our Union should be allowed to proceed even to the point they may exceed in rank and stature the CM within his own command. Conversely, those seeking personal gain or who present a possible threat to Union unity should be carefully monitored and, when possible, steered in a more productive direction.

5. A CM will establish a chain of command (CoC) within her own based on demonstrated leadership, abilities and other factors so presented her by her Knights. While much of this will be preordained by the natural gain in rank presented within her command it is important for her to recognize who will work best within each unit and also who would best lead it. In this way the responsibility to the chief CM is lessened as still others are enlisted to assist in these necessary supervisions.

5. The aforementioned CoC should always include a second in command (SC) who has shown beyond all others in your command they are ready, willing and able to oversee the activities of the unit should you, the CM, be unable to perform your prescribed duties. These will allow for smooth functioning within your unit in emergencies, unforeseen personal events and even vacations.

III: Unit Structures and Functions

There are many possible purposes of our units and some are listed below. While a unit may have one function predominant it is rare to find one of a sole purpose and, as such, it takes on the combined strengths, goals and personlalities of all its members.

1. General: With this in mind a Knight should never be admonished for visiting with other groups and participating in their activities with the understanding she is, while among their unit, under the command of their CM's as well.

2. Military Operations (MO):The CM of any Union MO should be knowledable in that MO and have established himself in said MO. Rank within that particular MO has no bearing upon Union rank or the position of the CM within Union. A detailed list of current MO's is available in the Knights' Handbook. This also includes Union Knights' Special Operations involving the infiltration and desimilation of tyrannical game systems throughout the net.

2. Recruitment (RC): The joining of new members to Union who may simply be 'passing by' is a very natural event, particularly during covert operations. While few units have existed for this purpose primarily all CM's should be aware and prepared for the potential new members who will just happen by nearly any Union gatherings.

3. Operations Management (OM): A CM will be responsible for any OM's of his unit and see that each is performed to Union Alliance and Elite Knights standards.

4. Game Mastering/Proctoring (GM): A CM may gain pts as a GM only as the GM and must limit her participation to that of NPC, though the CM may NPC his PC so long as this is understood of all participants.

5. Operations Development (OD): An active CM at some point will no doubt find a need to create a Keep or other area of gathering for her Knights. While there are several means of doing this please confer with your CC, HC and LS before proceeding.

6. Courage/Leadership in Battle (CL): Pts may be awarded for exhibition of extreme courage, leadership and/or resourcefulness in any Union sponsored MO or other Union event by the CM. The points for this available a CM are 5 times per his rank above SG per unit member. (ie, a SM [4 ranks above SG x 5 = 20] with 20 in his unit (x 20) will have 400 points to distribute weekly to those in his command. As a CM use these sparingly and be certain they are included in your weekly tallies.

7. Miscellaneous (ML): Rank may be awarded at any time for whatever reasons deemed appropriate by the CM as per the above law.

Keep always in mind that we are here for our mutual enjoyment and advancement. This is your kingdom too...make it the best you are able!
