Nick Dudman
Nick Dudman got into the effects business thanks to Stuart Freeborn, who had created the makeup for Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars. Stuart was an inspiration to the Young Nick, training at film school when Star Wars came out.  Nick's Father ,a Fleet Street Journalist gave his son the necessary push, discovering that Stuart lived in a nearby town.  Nick found Stuart's phone number, but it took his Dad to pick up the phone, dial the number & hold out the handset saying "Talk to the man".   Very shortly, Stuart had invited Nick to work with him on the new Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back.  Nick helped Stuart to design and build the Yoda puppet that Frank Oz would operate.  Nick is not in the Credits of Empire, but it got him his foot in the door.

Nick Dudman chats about his involvement with The Mummy.

From there, Nick went on to work on The Hunger with Dick Smith, as well as returning to Lucasfilm for The Return Of The Jedi, Willow,
Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade and Star Wars: Episode 1, for which he was Live Action Creature Effects Supervisor.
This was sort of full circle as one of the requirements of the new film was a "younger" Yoda. His crew also supplied Paul Engelen, Darth Maul's Makeup artist, with "Maul Horns", and created the Trade Federation Aliens.  Among the actors inside the rubber heads, was Nick's friend Jerome Blake, with whom he'd previously worked with on The Fifth Element.

Nick has graced many films as a makeup artist and designer over the years. He created the Jokers smile for Tim Burton's BATMAN, lead a 55 man team on the afore mentioned The Fifth Element, and can mention other titles on his CV including Interview With A Vampire, Judge Dredd, , The Mummy & The Mummy Returns.

His work on The Mummy got him special praise from the Visual Effects Supervisor, as Nicks special "Sensor Marker" appliances assisted the Computer guys to lock their Effects to the face of Arnold Vosloo, the actor playing Im-Ho-Tep.   Nick's crew were also responsible for creating the Mummified versions of Ankh-Su-Namun, Imhotep's priests and the Soldier Mummies that Jonathon (John Hannah) accidentally awakens. These were all updated versions of the makeup first created by Jack Pierce for the original Mummy. The Soldiers and The Priests were then copied in C.G.I. by ILM so that Rick O'Connell (Brendan Frasier) could chop them up a bit with out damaging the actors. His crew also made the "Sucked Dry " victims of  Im-Ho-Tep's power.

Two Characters from Harry Potter.

Most recently Nick and his team have completed Makeup's & creatures for The Harry Potter series, among them, Prof. Flitwick (Warwick Davis) of Hogwarts School and the Goblin Bankers of Gringotts Bank for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (U.S. title Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)  His crew also created, amongst others, Falkes the Phoenix, Aragog the spider and the screaming Mandrakes for The Chamber of Secrets,  Buckbeak the Hippogriff and the Choir Frogs for The Prisoner Of Azkaban, and for The Goblet Of Fire, "Mad-Eye" Moody's eye & a full size Animatronic Dragon .

When not working on film projects, Nick runs his own Company, "Pigs Might Fly"  with his wife Sue from their home in Kendal, Cumbria, and markets his own prosthetics material, "Dermplast" and a product line of screen blood.
