Chapter 1 Jeff handed Cassidy a beer as he sat in the floor in front of where she was sitting on the couch.  Cassidy looked at the beer and deciding against it handed it to Jeff’s best friend,  Shannon who was seated next to her. "You don’t want it?", Shannon asked.  "Naa.", Cassidy returned.  "How come?", Jeff asked leaning his head back in her lap so he could see her.  "I dunno.  I just don’t feel like drinking tonight.", she responded. Shannon shrugged his shoulders and opened the beer as he turned his eyes back to the movie that they were watching.  Jeff, too, turned his eyes back to the movie.  Cassidy was trying to enjoy herself, but she couldn’t get it out of her mind - her big news.   "Dinner’s ready.", Shane said as he stepped into the house from the back patio with a plate piled full of steaks. Jeff and Shannon both jumped up and made a beeline for the kitchen following after Shane and the food. "You gonna eat, Cass?", Matt asked as he held his hand out to her. She smiled and grabbed his hand as she stood up.   "Those two, I swear.  They’ll eat anything that’s not still moving.", Matt chuckled. "And somethings that still are.", Shannon said with a mouth already crammed full of food.  Cassidy shook her head and laughed at his crudeness as Jeff nearly choked on his food. "What?  It’s the truth.", Shannon said now chuckling himself. The group ate and finished watching the movie before parting ways.  That night, after Jeff and Cassidy had made love, she attempted to break her news once again. "Jeff?", she said softly as she tapped his arm that was draped heavily across her. "Hmm?", Jeff mumbled sleepily. "Jeff..I need to talk to you.", Cassidy said.  "In the morning Cass.  I can hardly hold my eyes open.", Jeff pleaded groggily. Cassidy sighed but decided to wait so that Jeff would be completely coherent when she told him.  The bright sunlight streamed into Cassidy’s bedroom and right into her eyes causing them to flutter open. "Baby?", she said as she rolled over only to find that Jeff was already up and out of bed.  She put on her robe and her houseshoes and walked into the living room to find a freshly showered and dressed Jeff putting on his last tennis shoe.  "Where you going?", she asked. "Over to Shannon’s.  He wants me to go fishing with him today.", he said as he stood up and kissed her on her cheek and headed towards the door.   "Can’t it wait?  I need to talk to you.", Cassidy said trying not to get upset.  "Later.  We’ll talk later, baby.", he said kissing her again on his way out.  "NO, Jeff!  Not later.  I need to talk to you now.", Cassidy insisted. He stopped and turned to look at her from the front porch, "I promise, later."  Then he started down the front steps towards the drive way where his car was parked. Throwing all caution to the wind, Cassidy blurted out her news, "I’m pregnant!"  And with that she angrily slammed the door and locked him outside.            Last Chapter ..*.. Next Chapter ..*..
