MANUELS RIVER GEOLOGICAL TRAIL GUIDE

This is an outline of two geological trails leading from the Chalet at the Manuels River highway intersection: one upstream from the road bridge, and one downstream. Red numbers in the guide refer to geological localities ('stops') described in the respective text panels. More information on the geology exposed along the Manuels River is available in the Chalet.

The Manuels River trail meanders for over 3km along one of the oldest and picturesque river valleys in eastern Newfoundland. The Main Entrance is located adjacent to the Chalet on Route 60, west of Manuels River bridge. Regular footwear, a camera and binoculars will enable the trail user to enjoy the environmental treasures of the Manuels River system. Allow about two hours for each trail. Walking the trails involve some 'rock-hopping' across the river, and this may not be advisable under certain weather or river condition. Persons touring the Manuels River do so at their own risk.

This guide was compiled by Jeremy Hall for the Manuels River Natural Heritage Society. We acknowledge the voluntary professional assistance of Martin Batterson, Doug Boyce and Art King, and financial support from the St. John's-88 Fund and the Johnson Family Foundation.

* Collecting fossils from rock in place is not permitted.
Please keep your trail clean. Don't litter!
