Composer: Marcelo Uzcátegui Andrade.
This is the first concert for guitar and orchestra performed the first time on may the 22th of 1987 and the first ecuadorian concert written for this instrument, it has to my point of view two fundamental merits: to show the job of a young autodidactic composer with compromised musical vocation, and the second one, to show a serious and professional work.
For the composer this is also a first intention in the elaboration of a concert after several intents which were taken form in the dialog between the guitar and the orchestra achieving a solid and ripe structure.
The musical language, more traditional than vanguardist, belongs to the classic and neoclassic styles and explode root and genders of ecuadorian tadicional music.
The concert presents the following structure:
Allegro: Whose pentaphonic ecuadorian thematic is combined with certain kind of traditional european musical language elements, and is exposed in the tripartita form, its material is contrastant between its extreme parts of fanfarric character with the central episode much more liric.
Adagio (Pasillo): Instead of a traditional adagio, the concert presents a dialog between the concertino violin and the guitar with the rest of the ochestra playing in ripiano. This second movement has the particuliarity that an ecuadorian national rythm called "pasillo" is introduced in it giving an atmosphere of pastoral placidity. The gender and its form are conserved along the all movement.
Allegretto (sanjuanito): It is completely pentaphonic and constructed in the bipartita form which is own of this gender. Its two thematic parts, one played by the orchestra and the other played by guitar are much more complementary than contrasting.
Diego Grijalva (Conductor, february 1987).
