Changing homes can be a stressful time for a bird so it is a good time for the bird to have a vet check. Remember that a seriously ill bird may appear to be healthy. Even a vet will need to run some lab tests to assess the health of any bird.
SOME BIRDS CAN CARRY DISEASES THAT CAN INFECT PEOPLE. If you have a compromised immune system or other health problems, we suggest you check with your vet and your physician before adopting a bird.
Take time to visit homes in which birds live, especially if you have never owned a bird. Most new bird owners are surprised at the amount of noise and mess bird produce, even small birds.
You should know that the initial expense of obtaining a bird is only the beginning. Cages, stands, toys, food, veterinary care, not to mention chewed shirts and furniture, are all costs you must expect.
After careful consideration, if you are still interested in adopting a bird, please e-mail marduckbud@lycos.com with "Perch Search" in the subject line. You will be asked a few questions and told when the next class is scheduled. After you complete the class, you will be given the contact information for the bird you are interested in or placed on a list to wait for the right bird to be listed.
