Aang (and Katara and Sokka, after a short arguement) mount Appa and travel to the Crescent Island. But they have just missed the Firebenders, who are in hot pursuit for them. And that's not all-Zhao has sent for his ships to capture Aang, and Zuko at the Fire Nation border. They send an armitage of fireballs at Aang-tachi, and escape by a hair-or do they? Sokka is thrown overboard, but is caught just in time. Aang fights off the fireballs with is AirBending. Zuko is also not arrested,

They arrive at the Crescent Island in the late afternoon, with a tired Appa and an energetic (faux) Sokka. Aang-tachi encounters the fire sages, who want to oust the Avatar. Aang holds them off while Katara and Sokka run. After the short battle, Aang leads them to a verve of dead ends, and meets a friendly Fire Sage named Shaiyou who leads them to Roku's Chamber. He tells them the story of how he knew the Avatar had returned and the misery of 100 years ago. They come to the chamber door, but his a roadblock when the door won't open. They trick the sages into opening the doors, but there's one problem... Zuko gets his hands on Aang. He escapes from his clutches just in time to speak with Roku when the light hits the staute. Roku awakens and takes them both to a dual dimension outside of the temple. Meanwhile, Zhao finds Zuko and the traitor Sage. Roku tells Aang of the vision of the comet. The comet made the Firebenders stronger and enabled them to conquer the nations. Previous Fire Lord Souzen will rise from the dead, and not even Aang can stop him. He must learn all 4 elements from now until summer. He stores himself as Aang's avatar power, and blasts the Firebenders as Avatar Roku. He destroys the temple in a molten blast, cleaning out the army. Appa arrives just in time before the temple topples into the mountainside and dilapidates. Zhao vows to get revenge.

• First episode with a 'last episode flashback'.
• Prince Zuko is exiled from the Fire Nation, and therefore not allowed to enter, but enters anyway.
• Debuts of Shaiyou, the Fire Sage, and Fire Lord Souzen, the Fire Lord 100 years ago.

Sokka: We're in the Fire Nation...
(His voice changes from confident to afraid)
Sokka: ...great.
