Aang-tachi arrive at a barren section of the mountain forest ravaged by FireBenders. They come across a town that, in addition to the FireBender attack, is plagued by a spirit monster. They appoint Aang to stop it, but it ends up kidnapping Sokka. Aang chases after it, only to find himself in the spirit world, where he can't airbend! He loses hope, but is found by Avatar Roku's avatar guide (like Appa, only he's a dragon). The dragon takes Aang to the Fire Temple, where he discovers he cannot speak to Avatar Roku until the solstice-coincidentaly, that's when the Spirit Monster will unleash its full power onto the village. Aang returns to the village (in human form) and confronts the Spirit Monster. The monster is actually the spirit of a panda killed in the fire, and is wared off by Aang when he shows the mislead panda the acorns that Katara found the day before. Meanwhile, Iroh is captured by the Earth Nation, but soon escapes thanks to Zuko and a little enginuity.
