Marilyn MacLeod, a Boston-based artisan, explores many different types of media including charcoal figure drawing, urban scene and landscape sketching, painting in acrylics, pastels, Chinese ink; print and web design; and stained glass design and fabrication. For the last few years, she has been creating decorative finishes in Boston area homes. Marilyn holds a B.S. in writing and certifications in visual communication, trompe l'oeil, water gilding, glazing, and Venetian Plaster.

Transformation

She'll transform your space into something wonderful by creating one-of-a-kind surface finishes to suit your walls, floors, ceiling, furniture and fabric. Whether you want to jazz up your old walls with textured venetian

plaster and translucent metallic waxes or "fresco" your new walls with stylized Etruscan motifs, Marilyn can create most any look you want.

Inspiration and Technique

Marilyn has brushes, tools and a variety of faux techniques in her pocket-- from blended colorwashes and sky paintings, strie, linen weave, ombre, stencilling-- to the more advanced techniques of trompe l'oeil, marblizing, wood graining, freehand murals, venetian plaster, and embossed/raised and enhanced stencilling. Marilyn has travelled to Italy to study the european arts of water gilding, grottesca, and grissaile. Her inspiration comes primarily from nature and her travels to Europe, the U.S. and New England although inspiration can come from just about anywhere: a shared family story, a poetic lyric, a song, or a textile fragment. From wherever your inspiration sparks, Marilyn will explore with you the creative possibilities to express a look that's uniquely yours.
