The Era of Wisdom and Power

The kingdom of Hyrule rejoiced as their hero brought the princess and the Triforce back to Hyrule. [ Little did the citizens of Hyrule know that Ganon was not dead as they assumed. He had lost control in his fight with Link and collapsed. He regained consciousness after Link had touched the Triforce and opened the seal. He escaped into Hyrule, but was too weak to challenge the new bearer of the Triforce. ] He climbed up Death Mountain before any could notice him and hid himself in a cave. The cave was located at a unique rock formation called Spectacle Rock; which was near the base of Death Mountain. [ There he slept, regaining his energy and power. ] But at the moment, all was well in Hyrule. It seemed as if nothing could stop Hyrule from staying safe, now that they had the Triforce.

But things are not always as they seem. [ Link offered the Triforce to the king, but they soon discovered that the king was unable to control the complete Triforce. And so Link decided to keep it, yet he discovered that he too did not have the gift. Nor did Zelda, Sahasrahla, or any of the other wise men. It was possible for any person to control one piece of the Triforce, but that power was limited. Impa, the descendant of the sage and a member of a long line of servants to the king, remembered the Legend of Zelda and pleaded with the king to awaken the princess. But one Triforce piece could not break that spell; it required the entire Triforce. The wise men were mystified. They had always assumed that it was not difficult to find anyone who could control the Triforce. Yet after studying the Book of Mudora, which Link gave to Sahasrahla for safekeeping, they realized their errors. Yet they certainly did not want anyone to attempt to use the Triforce anyway. Ganon proved that it was too dangerous to have one not qualified attempt to control the golden power. The Wise Men deliberated for many days about their dilemma. Finally, they reached an acceptable decision.]

[Sahasrahla volunteered to hide one of the Triforce pieces, the Triforce of Courage, in a far corner of the land of Hyrule. Yet before he left, he realized that there must be some way to reunite the Triforce. Using their wizardry skills and using a part of the Triforce, they cast a spell on Hyrule. When any man who had the power to use the Triforce and came of a certain age, the mark of the Triforce would appear on his hand. Because the mark of the Triforce was also the mark of the royal family, the wise men hoped that the person would find their way to the royal family to discover what it meant. Sahasrahla then wrote a scroll detailing how one was to recover the lost Triforce part. To insure that one who could not use the Triforce used the scroll, Sahasrahla translated the scroll into the ancient script, using the Book of Mudora as a guide. He then cast another spell, ensuring that the bearer of the mark of the Triforce could read the scroll. The scroll, along with six crystals, were given to the royal family for safekeeping. Impa insisted that they be placed in the North Castle, and so it was. Next, the wise men created six guardians. These guardians would guard six statues, each of which contained a notch for one of the crystals. It was necessary for the possible Triforce user to prove himself, and so the guardians were created. Only when all of the crystals were in place would a barrier around Sahasrahla’s hiding place be removed. This, too, was to insure that none would accidentally uncover the Triforce. ]

[And so everything was set. Sahasrahla left for the Great Palace in the valley of death. It was obscure enough that few would try to enter, yet was still available to the Triforce user. He used the power of the power of the Triforce of Courage to put him into a deep sleep, waking up only when the barrier to the Great Palace was destroyed. ] The Triforces of Wisdom and Courage stayed in the kingdom, where they were put to good use. Everyone was content when normal life continued in Hyrule. Everyone, that is, except the Hero of the Cataclysm. Worried that other dangers might befall the little kingdom, he decided to travel the world in a quest to improve himself. He placed the Master Sword in the Pedestal of Time, hoping that there would be no reason to use it again. He left Hyrule and traveled to many places. [ After returning from many adventures, Link found the life of a hero to be depressing. He left Hyrule forever, settling in another kingdom. It seemed as if the Hero’s bloodline was lost to Hyrule forever. As the generations moved on, the past was forgotten. Ganon became a myth to scare children, and even the Master Sword and the Triforce of Courage were only vague memories.]

Time went by, and the evil Ganon had become progressively stronger. He had secretly regathered his army of creatures, and was prepared to attack Hyrule once again. Yet his primary concern was the Triforce. [ A new king ruled the land, and he guarded the treasure of Hyrule well. He kept the two remaining pieces of the Triforce in separate places, and only he and his daughter Zelda new of their locations. Yet that did not stop Ganon. His army came down from Death Mountain and completely crushed the villages. ] Anybody who escaped Ganon’s wrath fled to nearby caves and tunnels, hoping to avoid any more confrontations. [ Ganon and his most powerful allies, however, headed straight to the castle to find the Triforce. The king tried to hold him off, but to no avail. ] Ganon stole the Triforce of Power and killed the king. Hyrule was on the road to ruin.

But all was not lost. Zelda, after hearing that Ganon was coming, took the Triforce of Wisdom and fled. She broke it into eight pieces and hid tem throughout the land. There were eight underground labyrinths in the area, and she his a piece in each. While doing this, she sent her nursemaid, Impa, out to find someone who could destroy Ganon. She knew that people had confronted him before, and she hoped Impa could find someone who could save Hyrule in this era. Ganon was not far behind however. He quickly learned of Zelda’s scheme and locked her in his cave at Spectacle Rock. [ He then sent much of his army into the labyrinths to search for the missing pieces. Since he certainly did not trust his henchman, he also sent his most powerful creations with them, to guard the pieces until Ganon could retrieve them. ] He sent even more of his army after Impa. She fled for her life, but her pursuers were catching up. It seemed to be the end of Zelda’s desperate plan.
Yet all was not lost. Link, the descendant of the Hero of Time and the Hero of the Cataclysm, had come forth once again. He was a strong boy, nearing his 16th birthday, and well trained in fighting from his native land. He had come to Hyrule for an unknown reason, yet was deeply troubled by Ganon’s rise to power. He saw Impa, surrounded, about to be murdered by inhuman creatures. So he stepped up and fought them off. Impa, impressed and relieved, told him of the princess’s plight. She seemed to think that this young man, with his strength, could stand up to Ganon. Link, of course, was burning with a sense of righteousness and promised to do his best. But he was hopelessly outnumbered, barely equipped, and woefully unaware of the power of the Triforce.
