![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() INTERIOR CABIN LOOKING FORWARD. The Mariner's berth is on the left, and in the center of the picture is the vertical rotating shaft which powers the various machinery on the boat. It's powered by the Mariner's "windmill eggbeater" blades on the mast of the boat. The wind causes the blades to turn, which in turn transfer power to the shafts via belts. Notice the belts on the shaft which transfer power to horizontal shafts on either side of the cabin, which in turn power equipment such as the winch on the stern that helps pull up debris from the ocean floor. ![]() INTERIOR CABIN LOOKING AFT. The Mariner is grabbing some equipment and going to dive off the stern to bring up some items from the sea floor that he's been trawling. The Mariner's berth is on the right, and notice the "bulge" in the cabin roof. That's where the boom and mainsail are stored. ![]() CHAIR ON SPONSON. This is one of the chairs on a sponson, and there is one chair on port side and one on starboard side of the boat. The back of the chair folds upward so the Mariner can stand on either chair while steering the boat. ![]() BROKEN WATER FILTER This is the Mariner's water filter he can use to filter urine into potable water! Unfortunately, thanks to his visit to the Atoll, it's broken now. He'd be lucky to get half a hydro ration out of that. ![]() HARMONICA The Mariner's harmonica he has mounted on his boat. It's no CD player, but it'll do. ![]() |
