"No more pencils, no more books, no more teacher's dirty looks..."
Well, after many busy days and sleepless nights of studying, writing papers, enduring group meetings, completing gruelling homework assignments, and attending countless classes, Dave and I have FINALLY finished university! *YAY* We both earned Bachelor of Commerce degrees, majoring in Tourism Management.

It meant the world to us that we could share this special event in our lives together on June 5, 1998...and both UVic and the Business Faculty will always hold a special place in our hearts, merely for the fact that it was the place where we met and fell in love!
I'm so proud of you, angel...con-GRAD-ulations! *GRIN*
Come celebrate with us by checking out these pictures below, which show our convocation as well as our awesome post-grad party afterwards!
It might be a little hard to see, but here's Dave at center stage in the convocation ceremony, being tapped on the head by the university's Chancellor...which by tradition means he has now officially been awarded his Bachelor of Commerce degree! *HOORAY*

And now here I am, being awarded my Bachelor of Commerce degree by the Chancellor...I'm just glad none of my nightmares came true about tripping on the stage or anything! *WHEW*

Here's a picture of me and my family immediately after the ceremony! Surrounding the girl in the cap and gown (me!), there's my Dad Bill, my Mom Betty, and my sister Cathy (from left to right). It was taken in the courtyard just outside the university's library! UVic is well known for its beautiful garden scenery...
And here we are at the Faculty of Business grad reception after the ceremony, doing the traditional "mortarboard toss!" (Can you spot Dave and I near the left-hand side of the picture?) The group was warned emphatically by the administrative staff NOT to throw our caps backwards, because there was a pond behind us...so we threw them forward instead! It was a pretty messy sight that followed once they all hit the ground, with all of us scrambling to retrieve our assigned caps! *HEE HEE*

Here's the setting for our post-grad party...at Dave's family's place at Youbou on beautiful Lake Cowichan, BC. This is a really neat picture of the house, which is right on the waterfront, as you'll see below. Special thanx to Dave's mom Cathie for letting us all come up here, and for always being such an excellent hostess!

This is a picture overlooking Lake Cowichan from the deck...as you can see, it's an absolutely gorgeous, serene place to come and relax (plus enjoy some fun, water-based activities)! In the distance on the water, you can see a sailboat...Dave's out there, giving a sailing lesson! Down by the dock, you might be able to see Carla, Cathy, and I by ramp...
This is a picture of Dave's and my graduation cake...a beautiful, delicious blend of whipped icing over a dark chocolate interior, which says "Congratulations to UVic Grads David and Marlena" on top (just in case you can't read it very well)!

And here's a shot of Dave and I cutting the cake, trying to figure out who'll get the biggest slice!
Some of guests you'll see in this picture are our friends Carla, Dave's family friend Ross, as well as my sister Cathy's boyfriend Mark, Cathy, Dave, me, and some others! Missing from the picture are my parents Bill and Betty, plus Dave's mom, Cathie...
Thanx for joining the party! This part of my site will be completely finished when I add a page with Dave's and my official grad pictures...
