father's death, and 14 in 1326, at the death of his maternal uncle,
William Martin, to whose vast estates in cos. Pembroke and Devon he
was coh., and eventually (by the death in 1343, of his mother's sister,
Eleanor, widow of Philip, Lord Columbers) sole heir, and then would
apparently have been entitled to any Peerage which his afsd. uncle may
be held to have possessed. He had seisin, though not of age, 25 may
1329. Though still a minor, 21 Mar 1333/34, he was sum. to Parl. as
early as 25 Jan 1329/30 to (sic ?!) 8 Aug 1386. An order for his arrest
issued on 28 Jul 1348 because he had not attended the King and Council
when summoned. He had exemption for life from attending Parl. 20 Apr
1353.

22544500. Edmund FITZALAN E Of Arundel, son of Unknown and Unknown , was born on 1 May 1285 in Marlborough Cast, , , England and died on 17 Nov 1326 in Hereford, at age 41.

CP XII/1:347-54, identifies him as the father of Aline.

As he was only about 16 when his father died, he was placed in the
wardship of JOHN DE WARENNE, EARL OF SALISBURY AND SUSSEX (RIN 3128),
whose granddaughter, ALICE, he married while still a minor. He
was knighted with the future king Edward II and many others on 22 May
1306. He participated in the Scottish wars of 1306. He was one of
those officiating at Edward II's coronation. In 1316 he was captain
general north of the River Trent.
For a long time Edmund was in opposition to King Edward and was
violent against Piers Gaveston, who had beaten him in a tournament. In
1321, however, he changed sides - marrying his son, RICHARD, to Isabel,
the daughter of Hugh Despenser (RIN 3421*), being thereafter one of the
few nobles who adhered to King Edward II. In 1323 he was chief justice
of both North and South Wales and in 1325 Warden of the Welsh marches.
During the fall of King Henry and the Despensers, in 1326, Edmund was
captured by the Queen's party in Shropshire and beheaded without trial.
His estates and honours were forfeited to the Crown.

Edmund married Alice De WARENNE in 1305.

She was the heiress of the vast Warenne estates - her only brother,
John, having died childless. John's widow, Joan retained the estates
until her death. When Joan died in 1361- long after she herself (1338)
and her husband (1326) had died - the estates passed to her son,
RICHARD.

Following is a brief summary of Henry's entry from the "Dictionary of
National Biography" : He served with EDWARD I in Flanders in 1297 and
1298. He fought in Scotland several times between 1298 and 1305. In
1315 he, in common with the other lords of the Welsh marches, joined
the Earl of Hereford in putting down the rebellion of Llewelyn Bren, and
in 1318 he was ordered to bring his Welsh retainers to Newcastle to
serve against the Scots. He was opposed to the Despensers, for the
greediness of the younger threatened the lords marchers generally; but
he does not seem to have had any violent feelings against the king, and
was not involved in his brother's [Thomas, Earl of Lancaster] treason. In
1324 he was created Earl of Lancaster, Earl of Leicester, and Steward of
England, dignities which had been held by his brother. It is evident that
he was indignant at his brother's fate, and was resolved to avenge it, and
was not appeased by these honors. In 1324 the King unsuccessfully had
him tried for treason. He was, at this time, regarded as the foremost
man in the kingdom. Henry supported Queen Isabel upon her return to
England and he was instrumental in the downfall of the Despensers and
had custody of King Edward II for a time during his imprisonment. He is
said to have treated the King very humanely. Henry was the guardian of
King Edward III during his minority and was the chief member of the
council of government. In 1326 he took the lead in opposition to the rule
of Queen Isabel and her paramour, ROGER MORTIMER, EARL OF MARCH
(RIN 684). Early in the year 1330, following a slow degeneration of his
vision, Henry became totally blind. Still, he persuaded the king of the
necessity of getting rid of MORTIMER and was the mastermind of the plot
which led to MORTIMER'S capture, trial, and execution late in the year.
The Earl's blindness, which he bore with patience, forced him to retire
from active life; he gave himself wholly to devotion. He was courteous
and kindhearted, of sound judgement, religious, and apparently of high
principle.

Henry married Maud De CHAWORTH in 1296-1297.
