The stresses and tensions of our everyday life occasionally catch up with us. In ancient times these were released by what is known as the 'fight or flight' mechanism.
Our bodies still react in much the same way to our earlier ancestors but these days are generally no such release, and tensions gradually build in the body, often without us being aware of it. This excess tension can result in such conditions as irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension, aching joints and muscles, and headaches to name a few.
Tai Chi can help relieve this accumulated stress. Its gentle flowing movements and diaphragmatic breathing create a felling of relaxation; tranquillity and harmony, revitalizing body and mind with renewed energy.
The movement of the joints stimulates the flow of nourishing synovial fluid. There is also some evidence to suggest that with regular practice, Tai Chi may actually improve flexibility, self-confidence, sensitivity and awareness. Although the movements require precision concentration and balance they are very easy to learn and joy to perform. |
