Cheerleader of the Moment
Ellen Arvidsson is our current Cheerleader of the Moment. As one of the few remaining members of the establishing Mavericks team, Ellen has been cheering for 2 ½ years. In that time, Ellen has grown (literally!) from a tiny little girl who had no clue about cheerleading to the tallest and most flexible flyer and one of the most talented cheerleaders on the team today. .
Ellen's enthusiasm and dedication to Mavericks is infectious and unwavering. Ellen is an amazing person; she always has a way of making the team laugh and smile; an awesome cheerleader and an awesome flyer. Ellen is always so energetic and such a hard worker, pushing herself to give 110% in everything she does. She always knows how to make us laugh. Ellen was chosen as Cheerleader of the Moment because of her positive attitude and her wonderful work ethic. She is always extremely encouraging to her teammates and is the true example of a team player. Ellen always gives every single thing that she has at every minute of every practice (and usually every single spare moment outside of training too!).
Team mate and Ellen's stunt group back spot says that "Ellen is scarily flexible and I love doing stunt group with her! She is always up for trying new things even after the odd fall. We partner stunted together at Mavericks first cheer comp (remember our chair at BCA midlands?!)"
Ellen was chosen as the flyer for the Co-ed Stunt Group for Nationals 2008 and did the team proud. Following her success in this group, Ellen was awarded joint flyer position with Amber Lozanska in this season's All-Girl Stunt group. Ellen is a fantastic all-round cheerleader, being a prominent member of the dance, cheer and stunt teams.
Alumni Mavericks Caz says "She is awesome. My funny memory would have to be when we were on the way back from Brighton after competition, and Charlie was driving. We got stuck in so much ridiculous traffic, and were stuck for about 2 hours, all getting a bit ratty and annoyed. I said to Charlie 'Can I just get out and walk and you pick me up on the way through?' and Ellen turned and said 'No. You get out, you STAY out!' which really lightened the mood and made everyone smile - that's one of the things I miss most about her, the fact that she always makes people smile. Also, she's soooo sweet - I used to get so nervous at competitions, especially with dance, and she always used to say to me 'you're not nervous, you're excited!' and before we went on at Nationals, she found me, and said it - she's always so sensitive to other people, and really cares about everyone in the squad, whether she knows them well or not, she really helps to foster the team spirit, with her friendliness and the way that she always works so hard to make people feel comfortable."
Ellen's success at cheerleading has been highlighted at each End of Year Awards presentations. Winning the Spirit Award for 2006/2007 and the Flyer of the Year for 2007/2008 proves how much Ellen has improved at Mavericks.
Footballer Mitchell Holt, having been to many open training session and cheerleader events says "Ellen would be my choice as a partner stunt partner if I didn’t play football (which I’m not giving up!). I love the way the little one is so giddy with excitement about cheerleading and I am always hearing how she makes people laugh and is doing well."
Coach Kirsten says "I met Ellen whilst teaching a cheer lesson at her school and from the off she was an enthusiastic and willing cheerleader. Despite coming with friends that later dropped out of the team, Ellen continued with Mavericks and has improved so much it's hard to believe she was that little girl who couldn't hold her high V's!! Ellen is a real asset to the team, not only because of her talent but also because of her real enthusiasm. She is a real pleasure to coach. Whatever happens I always know I can count on Ellen to be there and put in 100%. She is a fantastic person and friend as well as a fantastic cheerleader."
Ellen is a true Mavericks STAR!!!!
