White House Market Updates.
Former City Council Member Nate Miley attended the NCNP meeting on September 13, 2000. Councilman Miley addressed the  issue of the ABC license transfer of the White House Market located at 2630 kingland Avenue, Oakland Ca 94601.  You can read the letter that Councilmember Miley wrote to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control here, regarding the conditions to be placed on the licence transfer.
The White House Market continues to plague the neighborhood dispite  the conditions that were place on the transfer of the liquer license (see below).  Kids continue to hang out on the street and nearby blocks, open air drug deals continue in the area drawn by the closed eyes attitude of the White House Market owners.

At the August NCPC meeting it was disclosed that the licence has not yet been transfered, and the ABAT has conducted undercover opperations at the market in relation to underage sales of liquer. There are now legal proceedings pending against the owners of the market, but no court dates or resolutions have been identified.

The neighbors are of a mind that the only solution for the market is to have it's licence taken away, and shut down or to sue the owners in small claims court for $5000 (each suit.) to get them to change their business practices.

I would be sorry to see yet another boarded up store front in East Oakland, but listening to the neighbors on the immeciate blocks, I am afraid that I must agree with them that the White House Market must go.

Watch here for more information as it develops.
Notification to owner of Property at 2630 Kingsland Ave and the White House Market business owner informing them of the Small Claims Court action agains them unless evection of the market is undertaken immediately.

A letter was recieved back from the building owner requesting a dialog with the community, the text of which I do not have so can not provide on this site. At this point the community is not in a talking mood.
