In Waterloo

our house During my summer term I have lived in this house in Roslin Ave.. My room mates Meredith, Nelson, Matthias and Eduard and me have celebrated some really cool BBQs there.

Exams in the PAC Depending on the course we had to write our midterms and final exams in the PAC (Physical Activity Center). Usually there were several hundred students in the gym at the same time to write their exam.

Real Time Lab Through this window you could have a look into the Real Time Lab. One of the notes at the window says: "Think you are smart? - Prove It!". This is the course where only the programming gurus goto to. The real time course (also called the trains course) was the hardest course of the whole CS department. Participants of the course spent at least 50 hours per week in this lab - another note says: "Sleep Deprivation Lab in cooperation with the psychology department".

Toronto

CN Tower The CN Tower in Toronto is the highest free-standing construction in the world (553m). The visitors plattform is lokated at a hight of 342m. Having good weather it is possible to see the niagara falls on the oposite side of Lake Ontario!

Climbing In Ontario

Climbing in Kelso Climbing in Kelso Coming from Waterloo, Kelso is the nearest outdoor climbing area. It is part of the Niagara-Escarpment, which is made of 500 Mio. year old sedimentary rock. The cliffs of the Escarpment now are the playgrounds for us climbers.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls The Niagara Falls are one of the biggest tourist attractions in Northern America. They are a "must see" if you stay within 500km distance. Despite the crowds of tourists the Niagara Falls are worth a role of pictures and a days visit.

Algonquin Park

Algonquin Park in fall Algonquin Park in fall The Indian Summer is one of the prettiest things you can experience in Canada. After the first frosty nights the leaves of the trees (esp. the maple trees) start changing their colour into the most beautiful colours possible. The pictures were taken in Algonquin Park at the thanks giving weekend in 1999.

Canoeing in Algonquin Park On Friday in the afternoon many people from the Toronto area leave for their huts or villas at the Georgian Bay or around Algonquin Park. Once you have done a canoeing trip in one of the parks in Ontario you know why the people are so crazy about getting out of Toronto into the beautiful parks. We got addicted to canoeing there!

Killarny Park

Killarny Park - George Lake Killarny Park - George Lake Beside Algonquin Park Killarny Park is the most popular Park in Ontario. Many pictures of members of the "Group Of Seven" are based on the scenery of the Killarny Park. The "Group Of Seven" is a group of 7 Canadian painters who had a great influence on painting in Canada. As you can so on my photos this park is really pretty! The picture are taken at George Lake which is one of the access points to the park interiour. There is a campground at George Lake from where you can start canoeing tours or day hikes.

Camp Site Our tour through Canada  lead us back to Killarny Park. We did a round trip in the north eastern part of the park. We camped on some very romantic camp sites. On each camp site there is space for at least two tents. Also they are equipped with a fire place and a toilet not far from the camp site. Making fires is allowed in the parks in Ontario. Tourist get the wood from the dead trees around the fire place which might be hard to find sometimes. storm front

We had two days of rainy weather. In return for the missing sunshine we could enjoy this storm front.

Bieberdamm On our tour through the park we found some really pretty spots, for example small lakes which were almost completely covered with waterlilies, bogs with beaver dams, which sometimes dam the water of the lakes more than a meter high. At the beaver dams we had to carry our canoes including all the equipment along the portages. Although it was strenuous to portage the beaver dams created pretty wet meadows with the river meandering through it.

Lake Superior Park

Wandmalerei Lake Superior Park Lake Superior Park is a small park at the Trans-Canada-Highway. From the parking lots at the highway it is not far to the beach of Lake Superior. Most parts of the park are left untouched so far leaving many possibilities for adventures. We visited the paintings of Indians of that area which were situated directly at the shore of the lake. Beside a short bath in the cold water of the lake we also did a hike. We wanted to move our legs a last time before the long ride through the prairies.

The pictures below show our starting team for the tour through Canada: the left picture shows Anita and Marco, the right picture shows Alexander and me.

Parks in Ontario

The ski resort at Blue Mountain is the nearest real possibility to go skiing if you live in Waterloo. Blue Mountain is at the shore of Georgian Bay and the hill is part of the Niagara Escarpment. It is enough to have fun there for one or two days.
