Norway In A Nutshell, August 6-11, 2000

Waterfalls and rain along the way. During this trip there were several distinct phases. We went from Oslo to Flam, changing from normal train track to "narrow track" to go onto the steep mountain train tracks (better braking ability). Then we traversed the fjords by ship to Stalheim (after a bus trip to again crest the mountains). From there we again bussed to Voss, alongside a beautiful lake. We stayed an extra day at Voss, before boarding a train to Bergen - where we would board our ship to take the Hurtigruten cruise.

This picture will show you that summer in Scandinavia has a different meaning. This picture was taken August 6, from the inside of the narrow track train taking us to our first stop, Flam. This trip of almost exactly a week was remarkable for its stark beauty and how cold it was for the entire time.

But before we forget, we also have created a photographic album of the "Norway In a Nutshell" trip at Norway in a Nutshell, August, 2000 over at GatherRound. Use your "back" icon to return from GatherRound to here.
