We put together a separate photo album for this trek from the northern most point of the Europen continent to the southern parts of Finland. You can look at it at Finland August, 2000.
Rovaniemi is Finland's north rail head. The Arctic Circle is just a few kilometers north of the city. We enjoyed the city and the beginning of a bit of warmth for a change.
We continued to do a lot of extra walking to try and get rid of our sea-legs in Rovaniemi. It was a bit of a rest and warm-up here in Rovaniemi.
Both of us were really intrigued by the engeneering of this suspension bridge. The river was definitely too cold to swim.
We went to Santa's real home, which is right at the Arctic Circle latitude. We sent pictures of Marghe with Santa to our grandchildren in Oregon.
We then boarded a train for Helsinki, a ride which took almost a full day.
