10 Now Solomon's son was Rehoboam, Abijam was his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son, 11 Jehoram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son, 12 Amaziah his son, Uzziah his son, Jotham his son, 13 Ahaz his son, Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son, 14 Amon his son, Josiah his son. 15 And the sons of Josiah were Johanan (Jehoahaz) the first-born, and the second was Jehoiakim (Eliakim) , the third Zedekiah (Mattaniah), the fourth Shallum. 16 And the sons of Jehoiakim were Jeconiah (Jehoiachin) his son, Zedekiah his son.17 And the sons of Jeconiah, the prisoner, were Shealtiel his son, 18 and Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazzar, Jekamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah. 19 And the sons of Pedaiah were Zerubbabel and Shimei. And the sons of Zerubbabel were Meshullam and Hananiah, and Shelomith was their sister; 20 and Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushab-hesed, five. 21 And the sons of Hananiah were Pelatiah and Jeshaiah, the sons of Rephaiah, the sons of Arnan, the sons of Obadiah, the sons of Shecaniah. 22 And ben Shecaniah was Shemaiah, and the sons of Shemaiah were Hattush, Igal, Bariah, Neariah, and Shaphat, six. 23 And the sons of Neariah were Elioenai, Hizkiah, and Azrikam, three. 24 And the sons of Elioenai were Hodaviah, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akkub, Johanan, Delaiah, and Anani, seven.

Uzziah's life
2 Kings 15

1 In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Uzziah ben Amaziah king of Judah became king. 2 He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 3 And he did right in the sight of the L-RD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. 4 Only the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. 5 And the L-RD struck the king, so that he was a leper to the day of his death. And he lived in a separate house, while Jotham the king's son was over the household, judging the people of the land. 6 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 7 And Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David, and Jotham his son became king in his place.

Uzziah ben Amaziah becomes king of Judah
2 Chronicles 26

1 And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah. 2 He built Eloth and restored it to Judah after the king slept with his fathers. 3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jechiliah of Jerusalem. 4 And he did right in the sight of the L-RD according to all that his father Amaziah had done. 5 And he continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding through the vision of God; and as long as he sought the L-RD, God prospered him.

Uzziah's military success
2 Chronicles 26

6 Now he went out and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the area of Ashdod and among the Philistines. 7 And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur-baal, and the Meunites. 8 The Ammonites also gave tribute to Uzziah, and his fame extended to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong. 9 Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate and at the Valley Gate and at the corner buttress and fortified them. 10 And he built towers in the wilderness and hewed many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the lowland and in the plain. He also had plowmen and vinedressers in the hill country and the fertile fields, for he loved the soil. 11 Moreover, Uzziah had an army ready for battle, which entered combat by divisions, according to the number of their muster, prepared by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the official, under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king's officers. 12 The total number of the heads of the households, of valiant warriors, was 2,600. 13 And under their direction was an elite army of 307,500, who could wage war with great power, to help the king against the enemy. 14 Moreover, Uzziah prepared for all the army shields, spears, helmets, body armor, bows and sling stones. 15 And in Jerusalem he made engines of war invented by skillful men to be on the towers and on the corners, for the purpose of shooting arrows and great stones. Hence his fame spread afar, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.

Uzziah's punishment
2 Chronicles 26

16 But when he became strong, his heart was so proud that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful to the L-RD his God, for he entered the temple of the L-RD to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17 Then Azariah the priest entered after him and with him eighty priests of the L-RD, valiant men. 18 And they opposed Uzziah the king and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the L-RD, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful, and will have no honor from the L-RD God." 19 But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand for burning incense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the L-RD, beside the altar of incense. 20 And Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead; and they hurried him out of there, and he himself also hastened to get out because the L-RD had smitten him. 21 And King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death; and he lived in a separate house, being a leper, for he was cut off from the house of the L-RD. And Jotham his son was over the king's house judging the people of the land.

Uzziah's death
2 Chronicles 26

22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first to last, the prophet Isaiah ben Amoz, has written. 23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the grave which belonged to the kings, for they said, "He is a leper." And Jotham his son became king in his place.

Oracles of Isaiah
Isaiah 1

1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem which he saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

2 Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth;
For the L-RD speaks, "Sons I have reared and brought up,
But they have revolted against Me.
3 "An ox knows its owner,
And a donkey its master's manger,
But Israel does not know,
My people do not understand."

4 Alas, sinful nation,
People weighed down with iniquity,
Offspring of evildoers,
Sons who act corruptly!
They have abandoned the L-RD,
They have despised the Holy One of Israel,
They have turned away from Him.

5 Where will you be stricken again,
As you continue in your rebellion?
The whole head is sick,
And the whole heart is faint.
6 From the sole of the foot even to the head
There is nothing sound in it,
Only bruises, welts, and raw wounds,
Not pressed out or bandaged,
Nor softened with oil.

7 Your land is desolate,
Your cities are burned with fire,
Your fields-- strangers are devouring them in your presence;
It is desolation, as overthrown by strangers.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard,
Like a watchman's hut in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.
9 Unless the L-RD of hosts Had left us a few survivors,
We would be like Sodom,We would be like Gomorrah.

10 Hear the word of the L-RD,You rulers of Sodom;
Give ear to the instruction of our God,
You people of Gomorrah.
11 "What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?" Says the L-RD.
"I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams,
And the fat of fed cattle.
And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs, or goats.
12 "When you come to appear before Me,
Who requires of you this trampling of My courts?
13 "Bring your worthless offerings no longer,
Incense is an abomination to Me.
New moon and sabbath, the calling of assemblies-
I cannot endure iniquity and the solemn assembly.
14 "I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me. I am weary of bearing them.
15 "So when you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide My eyes from you,
Yes, even though you multiply prayers, I will not listen.
Your hands are covered with blood.

16 "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
Cease to do evil,
17 Learn to do good;
Seek justice,Reprove the ruthless;
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.

18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the L-RD,
"Though your sins are as scarlet,They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool.
19 "If you consent and obey,
You will eat the best of the land;
20 "But if you refuse and rebel,
You will be devoured by the sword."
ruly, the mouth of the L-RD has spoken.

21 How the faithful city has become a harlot,
She who was full of justice!
Righteousness once lodged in her,
But now murderers.
22 Your silver has become dross,
Your drink diluted with water.
23 Your rulers are rebels,
And companions of thieves;
Everyone loves a bribe,
And chases after rewards.
They do not defend the orphan,
Nor does the widow's plea come before them.

24 Therefore the L-rd G-D of hosts,
The Mighty One of Israel declares,
"Ah, I will be relieved of My adversaries,
And avenge Myself on My foes.
25 "I will also turn My hand against you,
And will smelt away your dross as with lye,
And will remove all your alloy.
26 "Then I will restore your judges as at the first,
And your counselors as at the beginning;
After that you will be called the city of righteousness,
A faithful city."

27 Zion will be redeemed with justice,
And her repentant ones with righteousness.
28 But transgressors and sinners will be crushed together,
And those who forsake the L-RD shall come to an end.
29 Surely, you will be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired,
And you will be embarrassed at the gardens which you have chosen.
30 For you will be like an oak whose leaf fades away,
Or as a garden that has no water.
31 And the strong man will become tinder,
His work also a spark. Thus they shall both burn together,
And there will be none to quench them.

Isaiah 6

1 In the year of King, Uzziah's death, I saw the L-rd sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. 2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called out to another and said,
"Holy, Holy, Holy, is the L-RD of hosts,,The whole earth is full of His glory."

4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke. 5 Then I said,
"Woe is me, for I am ruined!,Because I am a man of unclean lips,And I live among a people of unclean lips;,For my eyes have seen the King, the L-RD of hosts."

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, with a burning coal in his hand which he had taken from the altar with tongs. 7 And he touched my mouth with it and said, "Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is forgiven."

8 Then I heard the voice of the L-rd, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

9 And He said, "Go, and tell this people:'Keep on listening, but do not perceive; Keep on looking, but do not understand.' 10 "Render the hearts of this people insensitive,,Their ears dull,And their eyes dim, Lest they see with their eyes, Hear with their ears,,Understand with their hearts,And return and be healed." 11 Then I said, "L-rd, how long?" And He answered, "Until cities are devastated and without inhabitant, Houses are without people,And the land is utterly desolate, 12 "The L-RD has removed men far away,And the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. 13 "Yet there will be a tenth portion in it,And it will again be subject to burning, Like a terebinth or an oak Whose stump remains when it is felled. The holy seed is its stump."

The Prophet Hosea ben Beeri
Hosea 1

1 The word of the L-RD which came to Hosea the son of Beeri, during the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and during the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

The Prophet Amos of Tekoa
Amos 1

1 The words of Amos, who was among the sheepherders from Tekoa, which he envisioned in visions concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. 2 And he said,
"The L-RD roars from Zion,And from Jerusalem He utters His voice;And the shepherds' pasture grounds mourn,And the summit of Carmel dries up."

3 Thus says the L-RD,
"For three transgressions of Damascus and for four I will not revoke its punishment,Because they threshed Gilead with implements of sharp iron. 4 "So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael,And it will consume the citadels of Ben-hadad. 5 "I will also break the gate bar of Damascus,And cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven,And him who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden;So the people of Aram will go exiled to Kir,"Says the L-RD.

6 Thus says the L-RD,
"For three transgressions of Gaza and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they deported an entire population To deliver it up to Edom. 7 "So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza,And it will consume her citadels. 8 "I will also cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,And him who holds the scepter, from Ashkelon; I will even unleash My power upon Ekron,And the remnant of the Philistines will perish,"Says the L-rd G-D.

9 Thus says the L-RD,
"For three transgressions of Tyre and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they delivered up an entire population to Edom And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood. 10 "So I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre,And it will consume her citadels."

11 Thus says the L-RD,
"For three transgressions of Edom and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because he pursued his brother with the sword,While he stifled his compassion; His anger also tore continually,And he maintained his fury forever. 12 "So I will send fire upon Teman,And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah."

13 Thus says the L-RD,
"For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead In order to enlarge their borders. 14 "So I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah,And it will consume her citadels Amid war cries on the day of battle And a storm on the day of tempest. 15 "Their king will go into exile, He and his princes together," says the L-RD.
