Did We Really Come From an Ape?
By Timothy Glover
The Bible teaches that man was brought into being by the hand of God. God created him in his own image, in the image of God created he them, male and female. This does not mean that we look like God in a physical way. God is a Spirit (John 4:24) and does not have flesh and blood (Matthew 16:17). Thus, the Bible claims that God has placed a spirit in us. This spirit is not the animal life that we have in common with other creatures. This spirit is the intellectual part of us that reasons and chooses from one’s own willpower. We too can create and design according to our own choosing. Now, have you ever heard of an ape or chimpanzee who could create art, and music or design anything? Have you ever heard of an ape showing any desire to worship a supreme being? The failure to show similar intellect and mental capacity is proof that there is an obvious difference between humans and apes. One has a spirit while the other does not have one.
Of course the similarity, as already noted in a previous article, only proves that there was one designer. Still, the similarities do not prove that we came from an ape. Suppose we found a complete skeleton of a man who lived many years ago. Would that tell us exactly how people looked in that era? Of all the people alive today, there are so many different shapes of heads, jaws and cheek bones. Some people are 5’7”, 6’4” or 7’. There are exceptionally tall people and exceptionally short people. Finding a single skeleton of someone today would not tell you much.
Furthermore, there is not one complete skeleton of an ancient person available. The fossil remains that we have are few and fragmentary. So, those trying to convince people that we came from apes have very little evidence to support that claim.
However, Scientist have studied different kinds of apes. Some of the differences may be accounted for in the environment and climate. Yet, all of them are apes. The fossils found indicate differences in humans, too. But, all of them can be identified as humans. No skeleton links man and ape together. They need a very large number of transitional species to ridge the gap between man and ape.
They should note that the pictures we see of these apes and drawings of ape-men are only someone’s imagination of the skeleton remains. The skeleton is very limited. We do not know how big their lips were or whether they had big floppy ears. We have no idea what the animals looked like. It is disturbing to hear so many in our schools of learning portray evolution as fact rather than theory. Even though the term “theory” may be used, it is the only theory studied. If creation is mentioned at all, it is quickly dismissed as unscientific and therefore inconceivable. If a science teacher believes in creation, he or she is not permitted to teach it for the expressed reason that the schools cannot teach religion.
I would challenge anyone to consider the evidences with an honest and open mind. We are still left with a most fundamental response, “Which of the two is more reasonable to believe?” The study of taxonomy and homology strengthen the belief that one supreme architect created every living creature and designed them to function in different ways because of different needs and allowed them to adapt to their environment. Still, of all animal life, humans are supremely different. We have been privileged to have been created after God’s likeness, endowed with an eternal spirit that will one day unite with its creator in sweet fellowship. Creation may appear incredible to many people. But, evolution is most unfathomable and full of false claims about man’s origin.
