PRESS RELEASE
Murray Lightle candidate for Alderman, City of Spruce
Grove announced today that he has donated $1,000.00 to the
Canadian Red Cross in their efforts to aid the suffering
of Canadian families directly affected by the tragedies in
New York and Washington D.C. This money was the amount
budgeted from his family to purchase flyers and signs for
his campaign.
The factors leading to this decision are: The inherent
waste of creating masses of paper, which will end up in
the recycle centre or worse yet the landfill less than a
month from now and the greater need by others for the
financial resource. With 13 candidates for the 6
Aldermanic positions and 3 candidates for mayor, the
citizens of Spruce Grove are going to be smothered with
campaign material over the next few weeks. Although Mr.
Lightle has a strong team of supporters in place willing
to deliver material and talk to their neighbours about his
platform it was decided in discussion with his family and
his support committee that the money is better spent
relieving some suffering.
Mr. Lightle found that he could not in good conscience
spend this amount of money on paper and cardboard in the
face of the disasters we all experienced September 11.
True leadership is illustrated in action and Mr. Lightle
would like for his actions to speak for him.
Mr. Lightle would be proud to work for the people of
Spruce Grove as an Alderman. He is asking for that support
based on his past performance and concern for his
community. At this particular point in time he finds his
focus on the wider community in need rather than the
necessity to litter the local community with signs and
pamphlets.
This is Mr. Lightle’s third campaign for election to
council. In 1998 he received the support of over 600
voters and was less than 100 votes short of being elected.
He would appreciate the support of those individuals again
and will try to get his platform message to an additional
number of voters in Spruce Grove. You will find a small
number of new signs and some reused from the last campaign
on private lawns and on the main thoroughfares in town.
Mr. Lightle will go door to door throughout the city and
hopes to catch you at home for a short chat. If you would
like to talk to him please phone (780) 721-1281.
