A little chillier today - man, but I was tired all day. We had transcription in Shorthand and Typing - gosh I'll be glad when that's over with. Mary Lou, Doretta, Kathleen, Donna Lou and I ate lunch together. Betty go on our bus again. Her mother and Dad are certainly having fits over Betty's turning Catholic. I made up for yesterday afternoon - I worked 6 hours today - L.L. closing time is 4:30 now. I got home about a quarter of 7. Dot waited to eat with me. This evening Mother, Dad, Margaret, Jess and Marjorie went to hospital to see Aunt Elma so Dot and I took care of Jimmy and David. We also talked quite a bit - I guess Christmans tease Charlie about me quite a bit - poor Charlie. Its about a quarter of 11 so night now.

May 2, 1946 (Thurs)

It was pretty warm today. We had a self-rating quiz in homeroom. Some of the kids are reading their termpapers in Health. We had minute transcription in Shhd. and typing tests in Typing - I did terrible again. Phil Wise (Evelyn's soldier) came to school at noon so she didn't eat with Kathleen, Donna Lou and I. We hum the wedding march whenever Betty gets on the bus now. I worked this afternoon. I worked till a quarter of 5 and then went downtown and cashed my check and bought six pair of anklets. I got home about a quarter of 6. Dot and Bob were still here. After I ate I just read the paper and some more of "How Green Was My Valley." I straightened my bedroom up too a little, put my hair, counted my money in bubble bank ($8.69) and took my shower. Its now 11 so bye for now.

May 3, 1946 (Fri)

It was pretty chilly again today. I had to read my term paper on Patent Medicines in Health. Mrs. Chapman just gave us the details for letters and we had to make them up as we typed them - rather hard. Donna Lou, Evelyn, Kathleen, Doretta, Mary Lou, and I ate lunch together. We missed 2 buses so it was about 10 after 1 before we got to work. I worked hard again this afternoon. I have to work tomorrow morning. I got off work at 4:30 - Evie and I went downtown after work and looked at hats. I couldn't find an aqua one but did see a darling brown half hat, but it was $6 - I don't know whether I can afford it or not. I took care of the kids this evening, wrote a letter to Lucile and washed my hair - I came sick about 11.

Mother and I went to Job's Daughters - Mom's Night tonight. After meeting we had cheese sandwiches and tea - it was after 10 when we got home - Bob and Dot were in this evening. I took care of Midge, Dave, and Jimmie. I ironed a dress over there and wrote a letter to Charlie. Evelyn called and then Pat - Pat is going with Sammy double with Charlie and I next Sat. - Sammy (I think) wants to see me - thats why I fixed up the double date. It was midnight when Margaret and Jess came home.

I'm almost ashamed to write it down. Afterwards we went to Meyers and had a banana split. Then we went to Paramount and saw "Spellbound" with Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck - it was wonderful! It was about 8:10 when I got home. Aunt Elma was the only one home - I washed my legmake-up off and put my hair up. Its about 9 now.

May 17, 1946 (Fri)

Some more rain and chill again. What weather! - disgusting! Janet said this morning that she wouldn't go to Betty's wedding simply because it was in a Catholic Church - I think she is just jealous because she isn't a bridesmaid. We did bandages today in Health - had a test in Shhd. Had a typing test in Typing - I typed 76 gross words, but too many errors. No school at all this because of track meet so Evelyn, Donna Lou and I ate our lunch on the floor by my locker. After work I picked up the material and took SPC books to Miss Suter's house (511 W. Wayne). Mom and Dad went to lake with Roy, Lavon and kids so I ate supper myselft and read about 150 pages of "Day Must Dawn." Mom called me from the lake - she left refrigerator on defrost. Well, I think I'll study Shhd. a little. Bye now.

May 18, 1946 (Sat)

I got a pair of brown and white spectators (heels out). They are darling! I also got Dorothy a white slip for her birthday. I got home about 2:30. I finished reading "Day Must Dawn." Night!

It was pretty good. Afterwards we drove around trying to find a place to eat - finally ended up at Shawnee's. We drove around about an hour and got home about a quarter after 11 - Charlie left about midnight.

May 20, 1946 (Mon)

Pat called me twice - we only get 4 tickets apiece for Commencement. Its only 9:30 but I didn't have any too much sleep last night so I'm going to hit the hay. Night!

Tonight was election and surprise to myself, I came in second for Marshall (from Marshall you go through the chairs to Honored Queen) I didn't get elected, but I was surprised. I came so close. After meeting we had hot dogs, cokes and ice cream. Then Do Perry, Betty Lou Sowers, Barbara Weddifield, and I (in Do's car) went to Ferguson's and had a root beer - then to Gardners for milk. I got home after 11. Its 11:30 now.

At 3 I went back to school for SPC - my last meeting as Secretary-Treasurer. Got out about a quarter after 4. This evening I cut out my formal, over at the garden with Mom, Dad, Marj, and Jess. Mom and I mowed lawn. We all just sat and talked. Its about ten - night now.

Very warm this morning, but rained this afternoon. That still burns me up about the Legends. We had artificial respiration in Health. Test in Shhd. Evelyn, Donna Lou, Kathleen and I ate lunch in cafeteria. Betty got on same bus. I worked pretty hard this afternoon - Miss McCrory dictated a letter to me over the telephone. I came right home from work - got home about 5. I got cleaned up and about 8 Eddie Hawke and Jim Messman (a friend of Eddie's) brought Lucile over and then took us over to Halls and then Donna Lou's. Eddie and Jim are going to take Lucy and I down to Jackie soon. There were 11 girls at Donna Lou's - we had a good time. Evelyn wants me to go on a blind date with a sailor tomorrow night to Navy Club. Erv and Betty brought Lucile and I home. Lucy stayed all night - we got to bed about midnight.

Mother and Dad gave me a Farifax watch for graduation - very beautiful - I had the strap made smaller today. I also got a fuschia belt and buttons for a white dress I had - they certainly improve the dress. We stopped at Wolf and D's and had a Coke. I came home then. I started sewing on my formal - almost have the top done - it really looks nice. I didn't get to go with the sailor - Dad said no! I wrote a letter to Jackie - we may go down June 8 - 9 or June 15 - 16. Esther and Carl came over this evening. Its still early but I'm sleepy. Night!

They all left about 4:30 and I read my Health (52 pages) for a surprise test sometime next week. Charlie came about 7:30. We went to see "Saratoga Trunk" with Ingrid Brigman - very good. We drove around for an hour, but couldn't find a place to eat. Got home about 11:30 - Charlie left about 12:15. He gave me money to get tickets to see ???????? (child prodigy).

May 27, 1946 (Mon)

Oh Monday mornings - another dreary day. We got our Legends this morning in homeroom. I'm Legend agent and another girl and I had to go after them. They are very nice this year - maroon and gold with Indian on from - my picture is in 6 times. I made 97 on that health test the other day.
