moving things along...

© 2001 Jon Cole and Devin Kent, The Andband Comic

In my travels i have found weapons of great power only in the alternate worlds of ToME and Easyband, though i have hopes for the new Vanilla

Swords and Daggers

Glamdring (2d5) (+12,+16) symbol |
+1 to searching
Slay orc, evil
fire brand
fire, light resistance
Slow digestion, Perminant light

Glamdring is the sword claimed by Gandalf from the Troll horde in The Hobbit , where it had rested since being looted from gondolin during the orc wars.

A Maine Gauche of holy fury (1d5) (+6,+11) symbol |
slay evil, undead, demons, dragons
fire branded
resist fear, see invisible
blessed by the gods
aggravates nearby monsters

Found in Easyband, this is the most overpowered ego item i have ever seen, and it seems to have replaced blessed weapons entirely, so a character is almost garuntied to to aquire one long before stat gain depths. Note that in the hands of the 32nd level priest who wielded it, it did comprable damage to Orb of Draining, in a variant that boosts the orb's already balance-bending damage.

Blunt Weapons

Though i have heard of many might hammers and flails, i have not yet unearthed the like of the Warhammer of Aule (\) or the mace Deathwreaker (\)

Body Armor

The chain mail of Arvedui (-2) [14, +15] symbol [
+2 to STR and CHR
Resists acid, lightning, fire, cold, shards, nexus

The studded leather armor 'Thalkelloth' (-1) [11, +25] symbol (
+3 to DEX and speed
acid and shards resistance

Cloaks

The late Meir the powplayer priest found my only artifact cloak to date,
Holcolleth[1,+4] (+2 to stealth) symbol )
grants resistance to acid
affects your speed, int, and wisdom
it can be activated for sleep II

Holcolleth may originate in The Unfinished Tales, or simply be a creation of a vanilla maintainer , as it is a likely sounding elvish artifact to be associated with the Sindar (gray-elves), \ those of the teleri who Feanor found upon his return to middle-earth after Morgoth stole the Silmarils and slew his father, Finwe, one of the three great elvin lords who accepted the invitation of the Valar to take their people to dwell in Aman in the light of the trees.

footgear

I have never found terribly good boots, ]

Hats

The metal Cap of Thengel [3, +12] symbol ]
+3 to WIS, CHR
resists confusion

The steel Helm of Hammerhand [6, +20] symbol ]
+3 to STR, DEX, CON

Sustains STR and CON
Free action
"mighty were the blows of Helm, the Hammerhand"

Missle weapons and Ammo

The Boomarang of Beor (4d5) (+8,+12) Symbol {
affects dexerity and speed
resist fire, acid, lightning, cold

Beor was the leader of the first Edain(humans) to meet and give allegance to one of the returned Noldor. The is no mention of his wielding a boomerang. In Pern 5.12, The boomerang is dropped by old man willow in the Old Forest dungeon.

The Seeker Arrow 'Bullseye' (7d4) (+20, +15) symbol }
Slay animal, evil, undead, orc, troll, giant, dragon
greater slay demon
all elemental brands
"a powerful arrow feared by even the mightiest demons"
Bullseye is most probably inspired by the Black Arrow that slew Smaug in The Hobbit , as it will do slay damage to just about any creature in the game.

Lights

The Phial of Galadrial symbol ~
+1 to searching
Perminant light (3 radius)
activates for illumination
This is the most common artifact in angband, and in the days before preserve mode, some players would suicide if they saw it and fell though a trapdoor.
It originates in The Fellowship of the Ring, as a phial filled with the light of a star special to the elves.
