UPDATES:
In May, the Alzheimer's Association opened a toll-free help line that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide information to caregivers. The number is 1-800-272-3900.
My father was on one of our local news stations on January 3, 2001 getting publicity for the Alzheimer's support office in White Rock, the town where he lives. Currently the office is located at the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, but the hospital wants the office space back, and has given the Alzheimer's Society an eviction notice. The Alzheimer's Society is appealing to any local business owners who might have a spare office that the society can use. Update: A local optometrist offered the use of part of his office space and the White Rock Alzheimer's Society has set up shop there, a few blocks from their old office at the hospital. March 1, 2001
Don't forget to sign up for my free newsletter AlzTalk. This is more like a newsy letter to you about what is happening in my life and with my mother, from one friend to another. I find that a weekly, even biweekly newsletter is more that I can handle, and I'm sure I'm not alone. We all have busy lives, holding down jobs, keeping our household going, and add to that the extra stress of being a caregiver. I find that I delete too many of my newsletters unread, and then end up unsubscribing. I publish less frequently than others - you may even forget you have subscribed to AlzTalk. You can expect a letter from me every 6 to 8 weeks. Some of the topics in AlzTalk are:
News from my home office, what's going on with me and my mother Alzheimer's events Profile of an Alzheimer's web page Letters from readers
I hope to get some comments from subscribers on the content they would like to see. Subscriptions are with Yahoo Groups (formerly eGroups). Your e-mail address is not made available to other subscribers nor to anyone else. I don't have paid advertisers, so you won't be bombarded with sales. I am open to offering free classifieds to any subscribers, but so far no takers! I've provided links to subscribe to AlzTalk throughout this site. Please click on a link and join me and other Alzheimer's caregivers.
********************************************* I picked up a $50 Amazon gift certificate early 2001 for winning a bad poetry contest. Click here to go to the website. Kerry had a $5 Amazon certificate kicking around, and between the two of us we purchased three new books!

The special for the Joe Explorer web site appears to have ended. (Sign up for their free newsletter and receive a $25 gift certificate for Amazon.com.) I still have not received my gift certificate and I signed up on November 9, 2000. On December 22, 2000 I did receive an e-mail stating that due to the overwhelming response of new subscribers they are delayed mailing them out and promise to have them in the mail by February 26, 2001. I'll keep you updated! As of July 13, 2002 I still have not received a thing!

Another site that I know about that supposedly issues free Amazon gift certificates is Radio Free Cash. It is free to register with this site and they want you to listen to their music. UPDATE: This site is gone! Dead! Dec.1/01
I should consider myself lucky I redeemed $45 worth of Amazon gift certificates back in May, 2000 when I did. I later found out that some people who didn't cash in their certificates right away became void when Amazon didn't receive the cashola.
