Milan Sept 9 to 16, 2003

Self portrait at Metz Hi,
We go to Milan in Italy. Mother Hazel's great-grandfather Severinus Guscetti was born 24 June 1816 at Milano, Italy, to Margerita Eusebio and Gio Antonio Guscetti. He married Guiditta Marini de Besana 1818 daughter of Coroline Silva and Guiseppi Marini De Besana.

We wonder if we will be able to find any references to these ancestors. Plan to visit Milan's oldest church. With 4.5 million people now living in Milan, it will be a big place (like Sydney or Melbourne). Enjoy.

Dean and Jo Ingham and their four young children arrived in Italy in 2001 with the desire to develop a ministry with students in Milan via the GBU (University Bible Group).

We arrived Tuesday morning, visited the Market with the family, and then on Wednesday we took a tram ride to the centre of Milan, and visited the Cathedral. We imagined that Severinus and Guiditta were married in one of it's many chapels.

Thursday we returned to the Centre, and enjoyed the Garden and Castle. The history of Milan was explained as a succession of invaders, after Roman times to the present-day Tourists and Conference attendees.

Friday provided another lovely day, and a visit to the Museum of Science and Technology, where the displays are very thorough - Motto appears to be, 'Do not throw it away, Stow it here' especially if it is the only example of it's kind. We enjoyed Bicycles from the first mono-wheels to modern items.
Horse greets us at Nancy
Saturday we find our first Roman remnants of Milan, which have survived the bombing of 1943 and other disasters. We are enjoying the museums, as well as finding some feathered and finned locals.
Meeting at the car park
Weekend feature was Michael Schumacher's big race in Milan. We admired the helicopters passing overhead. Monday was the children's first full day for the new school year. Photo is a motor-bike with a roll-bar.
The first raindrops
On our last day we tried to get an understanding of the historic importance of Milan, being Constantine's base when he stopped religious persecution by the Roman empire.
