Kitchen

To enter the kitchen, you must enter through two thick, wooden doors.  Upon opening, you see several small tables for taste-testing, creating new dishes, chatting, or relaxing over a cup of coffee.  On the walls are hung a variety of dried fruits, vegetables and herbs.  Continuing on, you soon enter the heart of the kitchen - the preparation area.  This area of the kitchen of Khazad-dum is built from thick, black granite and includes a "prep"-island, several stoves, ovens and sinks.  To the right is a passageway to the larder where the food is stored.

The kitchen is broken up into several divisions:
Chefs Charmants - The chefs are in charge of handling all main course and appetizer preparations.  These creative geniuses often work closely with the Baleful Butchers and the Farmers in creating new, tasty meat and vegetable dishes.

Baleful Butchers - The butchers are thoroughly trained and skilled in animal knife use.  They work closely with the Hunters in organizing and maintaining the meat storage.

Order of the Flour - These creative bakers of the clan are the "sweetest."  Responsible for all desserts, pastries and anything to ruin your teeth, the Order of the Flour is always busy with new and beautiful desserts.  Their biggest accomplishment was a five-foot cake replica of Ancalagon the dragon!

Food Tasters - The kitchen simply would not survive without our most helpful and necessary Food Tasters.  These daring folks are always found lounging in the front hall ready to try any new concotion from the kitchen.

Helper - The job of a helper is to maintain a clean kitchen and have all foods prepped when a Chef or Baker is cooking in order to "speed up the process."  Without a helper, the Food Tasters would begin to grow thin while waiting to try something new.

Skivvy - Every good kitchen needs a skivvy - someone to scrub the floors, wash the dishes, organize the coffees, and anything else Anno, Anas or Nara makes up.

Farming

Geographically, the Farm spreads down from the mountains, through the hills and dales and down to the flat lands around Hollin and Dimrill Dale. It’s a mixed farm - arable (ie crops for Dwarves and the animals), livestock and forestry.

Crops - we grow include wheat, barley, hops, rye, rape, vegetables, herbs, etc..

Livestock - include miniature Dexters and Highland Longhorns cattle,  Shetland Sheep, Khashmere Goats, kine, geese, chickens, ducks. Oxen and shire horses are for ploughing. The duck pond is stocked with fish. Beehives are found near the lavendar bushes and on the heather moors

The Forest - is managed for firewood, wood for furniture, charcoal and so on. Peat is cut from the moors.

Vegetables - are plentiful: carrots, peas, tomatoes, broccoli, cucumbers, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, melons, spinach, lettuce, celery, strawberry bushes, blueberry bushes, raspberry bushes, grape vines.

Orchards - Apple trees, pear trees, apricot trees, willow trees, cherry and walnut trees. Not forgetting damson and rowan.

Herb Garden - mint, comfrey, yarrow, iris, purple coneflower, hyssop, mullein, feverfew, pot marigold, aloe, lemonbalm, lavender, agrimony, chamomile, valerian, cinnamon, st john’s wort, elecampane, sage, basil, ginseng, roses, thyme, rosemary, garlic

Pending Work - The rams need moving to new pasture. This field needs to regenerate. It won’t be long before you need to shear all the sheep. As for the milking parlour, its a bit dilapidated. We need a new pole barn for the hay. What happened to the cheese-making equipment? Who is going to be cutting the peat on the moors? Its also time to collect the heather for drying. And what happened to the charcoal making? Where are the spinners for the wool? And the basket and rug weavers? The willow needs cutting. How about the sausage makers? Do you think you could design a new smokehouse? I’d like to extend the range of products we smoke. And its time the greenhouses were given a bit more attention. Which reminds me: What happened to the commercial flower growing project? I’m sure there’ll be a lot of demand for that. The forests need tending too. Time some of those trees were thinned.

Hunting

The hunting aspect of the Mex Uzbans is coordinated by Arantal Vanyanare of Belfalas. The major component of the hunting division is the common Dragon Hunt thread that can be found in Khazad-dum. For more information concerning the dragon hunts, please refer to the link on the left of the screen entitled "Dragon Hunts". Other aspect of hunting that are in development are mini hunting rpgs and occasional role play posts in the Mex Thread. All hunters are encouraged to post about an experience they had hunting. These posts are to be done strictly in red and are to contain the different techniques used, game caught, and troubles found. These posts are a way to show the advancement of the hunting division. Arantal is also currently organizing a hunting training with the purpose of refining the skills of her hunters. The hunting training is to be launched within the next few weeks. Other responsibilities of the hunters are protecting the Mex Farm and providing enough meat for everyday cooking as well as for banquets. Arantal, along with the clan leader Annolori, have large dreams for Mex Hunting. In due time, they hope to have a separate thread for hunting practice as well as more ongoing projects. There are many different positions available in hunting. If one is interested in signing up to be a hunter he or she should choose which aspect of hunting they would like to focus on, lest one be assigned to you. To find out more about the allocations and the division visit the Mex Uzban thread in Khazad-dum, or email Arantal.
